lloks like beiruit and they have asked that poepps not use phones and cells as they need comms so they must be needing the lines and no doubt the police and emergency services dedicated coms are at max utilisation they wouls not have asked if was no problem hope things get sorted soon without much more loss of life, Poor bastards they must be all in heavy shock after months of after shocks and now this.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body.
But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...
WOW, What a Ride!"
Please note: IMHO and e&oe apply to all my posts.

I just tried to ring Mr Sp to see if he will be home late. He is in Auckland, not Chch but if Telecom has problems in Chch certain functions get switched to where Mr Sp is. The cell phone network is overloaded up here and I can't get through. I can't check the message in the voice mail either. I hate to think what it is like down there.

Retailers across the country may be experiencing delays processing EFTPOS transactions in the wake of the earthquake, says Paymark. The delays are due to the huge pressure on Telecom's network, and will affect retailers using dial-up services. The earthquake has not affected the Paymark network. Paymark asks that retailers remain patient and advise that services will return to normal once the volume of calls subsides. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10707997

Just sold my car yesterday in CHCH for a massive reduced amount (no one wants to buy twin turbos). Am really gutted now as was so contemplating parking it in the centre of town in the hope of a building collapsing on top of it so I could get four times as much I as did in an insurance pay out. Gutted.

someone arrested .. poor bugger .. he was in the road he wanted to help .. they should have given him a broom rather than arresting him!
he was taken away to cool down as he was trying to help and became over zealous in his intent and not taking advice to keep out of the way as he was putting others in danger as well ......

Brownie's shop is not in Riccarton. One of my cousins has been in Facebook with the comment. "shit this is bad" It looks worse than bad. There is going to be thousands of traumatised people.
I got in from work and got a phone call to turn the TV on. Shocked and have been stuck to the tv all afternoon. I had tears running down my cheeks, especially whats happening to the Cathedral. I know its just a building but the Cathedral is ChCh. I'd be a mess if I still lived there. Imagine not being able to get to your kids or family on the phone. Its just come through that Lyttleton and parts of Brighton are unlivable. omg.
