I suppose this could be construed as another control attempt by 'religion'

Catholic and Muslim officials have proposed rewriting school books to eliminate any offensive language about each others' religions.

The proposal was put forward in a joint statement issued after talks in Vatican City between delegations from Cairo's Al Azhar University and senior Catholic officials.

"Scholastic books should be revised in order not to contain material which may offend the religious sentiments of other believers, at times through the erroneous presentation of dogmas, morals or history," they wrote.

The statement did not say how exactly the world's two largest faiths intended to go about rewriting school books.

Last November, senior Vatican and Islamic scholars held their first Catholic-Muslim Forum and discussed the need to stop the spread of mistaken impressions about the religions by improving the books used to teach about them.

The joint statement also noted the need to shield youth from religious extremism and violence.

Laughter is the best medicine, unless you've got a really nasty case of syphilis, in which case penicillin is your best bet.

Given that both Muslims, Catholics (and other assorted Christians) and Jews all believe in Creationism rather than Darwin's Theory you have a good point - unfortunately.

A step in the right direction I think, teaching religion objectively which would hopefully mean that, in time, religion will be taught as a phase in history and a mere personal choice.
As for evolution, it has enough evidence behind it that no amount of ideological teaching could ever 'expunge' it.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body.

But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

WOW, What a Ride!"

Please note: IMHO and e&oe apply to all my posts.
