Police are searching for a four-month-old baby girl who was snatched from a hospital emergency room early this morning.
Sergeant Grant Rose said the infant – whose name was given as Riot Cameron Martin - was reported missing by Whangarei Hospital just after midnight.
It is believed the child was taken by her mother, who had earlier told the hospital her name was Jessie Martin, he said.
"Serious concerns are held for the infant as it needs IV and antibiotics," he said. "The infant may still have an IV line in its arm and is in a dehydrated condition."
The mother provided a William Jones Drive address in Otangarei, and has had a previous address at Matawaia Maromaku Road, Maromaku, Far North District, Mr Rose said.
Police urge anyone with information about Jessie Martin, 23, - who is described as Maori, 157cm tall of medium-thin build - to contact police on 09 571 2800.
