i tried to post some music but it buggered up into a page of gobble dee gook but found i could not delete my own post so i just cleaned out the page and heading.....but you're right ,i was wanking myself for about ten minutes trying to do this

Yeah, unfortunately you cannot delete the first message of a thread.
The reason for this is because unlike MSN groups where you only delete that message, with these SMF forums, deleting the first message deletes the entire thread. And as other members have often then posted replies to that thread, we decided it was best to block the entire thread from being deleted. Even I cannot delete a thread I have posted.
The ONLY exception is to ask a moderator to do it. Either one of the messageboard moderators or a global moderator. They do have the tools to pull the plug on a thread, but I think even then they only have 21 days from when it was posted to do it. Then it becomes permanent.
