Ho-Hum
The navy's newest ship has been forced to abort its maiden voyage because of engine problems, just months after its sister ship suffered the same fault.

So what is the moral of the story?

Don't purchase Aussie-made crap?  Cool

(I seem to recall lots of problems with the Aussie-made Anzac frigates when they were new too)

Mind you....the Leander-class frigates were built by the British ship-building industry.

However, there isn't a British ship-building industry any more.

So I guess we have a choice of either purchasing Aussie-made crap, or building our own, or looking elsewhere.

China probably have a decent price in mind.  Not sure I'd be comfortable with the probabilities of the 'crap-factor' there though.

Aussie....Chinese....Aussie....Chinese....

The thing about Chinese is that you get what you pay for.

If you want cheap & nasty, the Chinese will build you cheap & nasty.

If you want quality, the Chinese will build you quality.

The Chinese basically build what the customer wants in accordance with the price the customer is prepared to pay.

I gotta say that my Chinese assembled appliances and electronics have caused me no problems whatsoever.  My kiwi made and Aussie made ones have.  I tend towards buying middle of the range, but more upper middle, rather than lower.  So I guess I have to agree with you on that one.

I just wont be licking my tv or computer any time soon.  Just in case... ya know.
