A new voluntary bonding scheme for doctors, nurses, midwives, vets and teachers is to be announced on Monday by the Government.
Student loan write-offs will be offered in return for agreeing to work in rural areas that find it hard to attract personnel, or for specialising for between three and five years.
A cash payment will also be offered.
A voluntary bonding scheme was an election pledge by the National Party.
The maximum loan write-off will be about $10,000 per year for doctors and $3500 for midwives and nurses.
