Police officers are being warned about the dangers of Facebook.
Auckland's Detective Sergeant Conan Bradley has started running regular training sessions on the subject.
He says officers shouldn't say they're a cop on their personal profile, talk about the jobs they've been out on, or post photos of their children.
"Based on information that's come from overseas, we're finding that officers are getting fired for comments they're putting on there. They are getting discredited through the courts.
"No matter who you are, what you post online can be accessed and used by individuals, especially defence attorneys, criminals and those with an interest in police activities."
Mr Bradley says there's nothing to suggest anything untoward is happening in New Zealand, but if Facebook settings aren't clear, it's open slather.
