I used to think the three Waihopai activists who deflated an inflatable dome were vandals.

Now I've changed my mind and decided they are heros. They should have blown the place to bits with explosives instead of merely indulging in a bit of vandalism.

Fuck the NZ government and their sucking-up ways with regards to Uncle Sam.

You flip flop about as much as John Key. One minute you are stating we shouldn't sell our assets, the next minute you want to blow one up costing millions of dollars to the tax payer. So what is it? Do you want keep assets or get rid of them.

Waihopai is an asset to the government of the United States of America, but paid for by the NZ taxpayers.

Blowing it up and not replacing it would result in cost savings.

Blowing it up will not result in not replacing it, it will result in a repair bill that we that taxpayers would have to foot.

The annual Waihopai spy base protest attracted a crowd of around 70 anti-base demonstrators on Saturday afternoon, spurred on by revelations over the past year of illegal spying by government. ...

...The spy base protest has been held each year since 1988.

''It took government 25 years to admit that the GCSB [Government Communications Security Bureau] have been illegally spying on New Zealanders, but they have finally done it. Ironically it's actually unfortunate that we have been vindicated because of the implications that has,'' he said.

In his speech Mr Horton thanked the role that Kim Dotcom played and made special mention of American Edward Snowden for his part in revealing the global spying activities of the US.

''By having this base here we are a part of that and we are opening ourselves up to making the same enemies as the Americans.'' ...
