Train services in and out of Invercargill are on hold again today.

It follows the derailment of a northbound freight train on the main trunk line just before lunchtime yesterday.

KiwiRail spokeswoman Ruth Larsen says over 500 metres of track was damaged after one of the wagons came off the tracks near Woodlands.
Ms Larsen says it is proving difficult to get cranes close to the tracks due to their inaccessibility. She says some track repairs were carried out yesterday, but there is still about 200 metres of track to be repaired.
