It's good to see that folks other than Simon Bridges (who incidentely vote for the Nats) are likewise into being accepting of shoddy cheap & nasty equipment ordered by people put into their positions by their Nats masters to do their bidding.

It shows a general consistency in the way Nats folks work.

Given you crossed out Associate Minister, that now means the placement of the word 'An' is incorrect. It should be 'A.' As in 'A, correction, LIAR.'

Here is a good book for you to purchase to save yourself from further mistakes.

That is Nats-speak for “we don't want to admit that Steve Joyce was showing his ignorance when he claimed NZ couldn't build the heavy components for locomotives, even though the Australian manufacturers of locomotives obtain the heavy components (mainframes and bogies) from Price Engineering at Thames in New Zealand.

DUH....jeeeeezus those Nats are DUMB! They cannot even get their basic facts correct, then tell lies to cover up their dumbness!!

Elective surgery wait 'no longer than four months'
BRONWYN TORRIE Last updated 13:31 16/08/2012

Kiwis will not wait longer than four months for elective surgery, Health Minister Tony Ryall announced today.

The tightening of elective surgery targets would force district health boards to ensure people do not wait longer than five months for surgery by next year and four months the following year.

Operating on patients faster would put additional pressure on ''struggling'' doctors and nurses, Hutt Valley Hospital anaesthetist Peter Tobin said.

Staff had done a lot of extra worked and worked in the weekends to meet the elective surgery target.

''It's been a real struggle to get to six months and I don't think any of us are looking forward to the five months and the four months ... but we'll do our best.

''We're patients as well and it's in our interest to give health in a timely manner.''

Tobin said management staff had also contributed by getting to know every patient on the waiting list and organising them so they can be seen within six months.

Seventeen out of the 20 district health boards had met the six month waiting target at the end of June, Ryall said. Capital and Coast failed to meet the target, but were on track to meet it in the next quarter results, he said.

Ryall visited Hutt Valley Hospital today to award a certificate for no patients waiting more than six months to see a specialist or have an operation.

A year ago there were 5700 people around the country who were not seen or operated on within six months.

''I'm here today to let you folks know that right across the country we've got that 5700 down to 800 people and if we take out Canterbury, which is of course under huge pressure and we've exempt them from this, we've now got that down to just over 130 people on hospital waiting lists in New Zealand waiting more than six months,'' Ryall said.

''I think it's important because when you need surgery you need the piece of mind that you're going to get it.

''These operations are actually need by people - hip replacements, cataracts - life is completely different after those operations happen.''

Ryall said the Government had invested about $2.5 million to help district health boards create systems to speed things up.

''They tell me, though, that there are probably only 1500 to 1800 people waiting more than five months at the moment across the country so I think with a tail wind we should be able to make the five months.''

Last year 153,000 New Zealanders had elective surgery - an increase of 8000 on the previous year

No mention of how long it takes to get on the waiting list.

What about the 'reserve' waiting list? Those figures don't make the official stats. It's a crock of shit.

You get referred to a Specialist. If you have to/are likely to wait longer than 6 months, you are referred back to your GP (who has incidently referred you to the Specialist because the GP needs/wants a Specialist opinion/intervention). What is the purpose of sending you back to your GP when he/she cannot do anything for you - surgery or speciality treatment is required.

This waiting list crap is something that both major political parties are responsible for.

Yup!

Dad was told his cataract was bad enough to need removing.

Public system - the optometrist thought that at the rate it was growing (fast) he would get on the list in 6-10 months with an operation within the next 18 months.

Dad then said the magic words - "I have surgical cover". It was done in 2 days.

Suddenly his 'good' eye didn't seem so good anymore. They took care of that one a fortnight later.

The waiting time both my parents have had for treadmill and heart monitor tests was way outside what the doctors wanted. Mum was 3 months for something that the specialist considered urgent enough to warrant a monitor fitted the next week. The admin staff scheduling it thought differently for reasons unknown.

TVNZ: SkyCity hasn't asked us for land

By DAVID FISHER - The New Zealand Herald | 11:24AM - Thursday, February 21, 2013

An artist's impression of the proposed convention centre for Auckland.
An artist's impression of the proposed convention centre for Auckland.

TVNZ says it has had no approach from SkyCity to buy its land for the proposed convention centre, contrary to the Prime Minister's assurances to Parliament yesterday.

The state broadcaster also ruled out any commercial arrangement with the casino company.

TVNZ's position is in contrast to statements by John Key to Parliament yesterday when he was quizzed over what discussions he and his staff had with SkyCity about TVNZ's taxpayer-owned land.

Mr Key told Parliament the casino had worked out it needed more land. The larger design came after Mr Key's instruction to "think outside the box" resulted in a design for much larger convention centre.

Mr Key said he was aware "if Skycity was to build a larger convention centre than the original one they wanted, at some point I was aware that they would need to acquire land".

He said: "It is pretty straightforward. SkyCity, after it decided it would be prepared to enter an expression of interest process to have a larger convention centre, went off to its architects. Its architects designed such a thing, realised they needed more land, worked out who owned the land, and approached Television New Zealand."

Mr Key was quizzed over how an approach could be made without the TVNZ board being aware of it. He responded: "I cannot speak for the Television New Zealand board, but I am finding it reasonably hard to believe that Television New Zealand entered a commercial agreement with Skycity to sell land that it owned, and it did so without its board knowing."

TVNZ spokeswoman Megan Richards told the Herald on a number of occasions last year there had been no approach by SkyCity for the land and no deal had been done.

Today, she said the position had not changed. "We have had no approach from SkyCity. We have no commercial arrangement with SkyCity. If we were to be approached by SkyCity we would have to consider it on its merits."

She said there were portions of land which TVNZ might consider it could sell and others which it would not. She said SkyCity had historically expressed an interest but not in recent years and never in relation to the proposed International Convention Centre.

Mr Key was questioned by NZ First leader Winston Peters, who accused him of a "secret side-deal in favour of his mates at the casino".

Mr Peters said TVNZ's board had heard nothing of land being sold and asked if Mr Key had promised the casino he would "privatise TVNZ's assets" as part of the deal.

Mr Key responded by saying a lack of knowledge might show "board process needs to be improved, and maybe the mixed-ownership model would work for it".

He added there were no plans to sell TVNZ or change its structure.

The casino's desire for land emerged in the Auditor-General's report into the proposed deal. In August 2010, then-economic development minister Gerry Brownlee asked the casino if it was able to get more land for a bigger convention centre.

The report linked the bigger design to the Gambling Act changes the casino wanted, stating: "SkyCity recalls the Minister indicating at the meeting that the Government's willingness to consider regulatory reform depended on SkyCity meeting the requirements of a bigger convention centre on a larger site."

In September 2010, the casino produced a design showing more land was needed, telling the Government it wanted it to buy the land for the project.

John Key is a LIAR.

However, it is only one in a long string of LIES from John Key since he became a politician.

Blatant LIES from John Key in Parliament yesterday. And the Nats now have a corrupt, puppet Speaker in Parliament for Jonkey to hide behind....

Followed by bullshit & SPIN from Herr Brownlie....Sieg Heil....

Steven Joyce stands up in Parliament and tells blatant lies....

Yet more LIES from John Key in relation to the cronyism deal with SkyCity....

And today, John Key is too gutless to answer questions, instead hiding behind Steven Joyce!

The bullshit/SPIN continues from Steven Joyce....

Rose-tinted view cruel fairy tales

Matt McCarten on politics

HERALD on SUNDAY | 5:30AM - Sunday, February 02, 2014

Many jobless people seeking work do not register with Work and Income NZ.
Many jobless people seeking work do not register with Work and Income NZ.

THIS GOVERNMENT manipulates statistics to show how well the economy is doing and most of us swallow it.

The manufactured consent is the economy is booming and the number of unemployed is at record lows.

Here's my unease with the unemployment success story. There isn't a week I don't meet jobless people who are seeking work yet receive no support from the state.

Many friends and extended family are hardworking people who tell me they don't register with Work and Income NZ because they claim they are hounded by officious bureaucrats and made to feel like something icky on the aforementioned's shoe.

The stories are too numerous to convince me there isn't a calculated policy to make it humiliating for workers down on their luck to apply for assistance.

I expressed my doubts to my union's director, Mike Treen, after another sunny economic report was published. Treen is one of those self-taught working-class economists who pores over business pages with the same intensity most Kiwis read sports pages. He told me he could prove statistically that due to deliberate hostile and punitive policies over the past decade by successive governments, more than 100,000 unemployed Kiwis wanting work are today denied unemployment assistance.

I was a bit dubious about such a large figure but this week he was back with his research, courtesy of the Statistics NZ website. You'll be tempted to let your eyes glaze over, but bear with me because it's important not to let the Government pretend there is low employment when there isn't.

Unfortunately it's even worse than that.

There are two ways of measuring unemployment — the Household Labour Force Survey and the number of people getting the unemployment benefit.

Oddly, there were 30,000 more people on benefits than measured in the Household Survey until the mid-2000s.

During Helen Clark's second and third terms her government took reactionary measures against the jobless on benefits.

When her government fell in 2008 50,000 more people were unemployed in the Household Survey than receiving the employment benefit — a whopping difference of 80,000 in just six years.

After Labour's dishonourable record, National had a free hand in extending the purge and the gap exploded to 130,000 unemployed Kiwis who now get no assistance.

If you think the Household Survey exaggerates the unemployed, understand the unemployed measurement includes only those who are physically able, not training and actively seeking work.

Someone working for even an hour in survey week is classified as employed.

Here's a really depressing statistic Mike Treen found. Using a broader definition of jobless, he says that in the late 1990s about 75 percent of jobless received a benefit. Today it's less than 20 percent. He estimates more than $1 billion a year is withheld from the poorest. Little surprise then that at the same time we are told the economy is rosy churches and voluntary social services are overwhelmed by the poor begging for charity.

It's a different reality from John Key's smiley-faced optimism selling positive employment messages, aided by the gushing Paula Bennett supposedly responsible for getting shirkers off the dole into real work.

The nerdy genius Bill English in the engine room is hailed as making this good news possible.

The Statistics NZ charts reveal this as fiction.

The 130,000 uncounted unemployed are officially invisible.

As such, they don't get a penny. The billion dollars they should be getting to survive keeps the government books nicely inflated.

It's not only cynically dishonest, but heartlessly cruel.

Only totalitarian regimes get away with this.
