Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body.

But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

WOW, What a Ride!"

Please note: IMHO and e&oe apply to all my posts.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Work and Income letter draws fire

Updated at 6:29pm on 17 February 2009

Work and Income has advised a client seeking temporary support to pawn her cellphone and childrens' Play Station to help make ends meet.

The letter, released by the Labour Party in Parliament on Tuesday, was written by a Mangere-based case manager and also suggests that the solo mother take out a loan to cover arrears.

Labour deputy leader Annette King asked Social Development Minister Paula Bennett whether it was appropriate advice to give unemployed New Zealanders.

Ms Bennett acknowledged the letter was inappropriate.

Later, Work and Income said it did not advise the woman to pawn her cellphone and children's Play Station to help make ends meet.

Work and Income head Patricia Reade says the letter merely listed the actions the woman told the case manager she would take to live within her means.

Ms Reade admits the letter's wording is unfortunate, and say s she has spoken to the manager.
