What a primo game. Went down to Christchurch to see it. The one blemish was being told that I had to remove the wrapping from my 'Subway' Sandwich before I could get in because 'Subway' is not a sponser and they didn't want to risk upsetting sponsers if I was seen on TV eating from a 'Subway' wrapping. FFS, that action confirmed with me that I will never buy a ticket to a rugby game whilst appeasing sponsers is more important than the fans being able to sit down and watch a game of rugby eating out of whatever they feel like. It is no longer a game but an advertisement campaign.

A typical boring result.

Now....if Hawke's Bay had beaten Canterbury and Southland had beaten Wellington last weekend, then we really would have had an NPC final that would have been exciting instead of the usual boring same-old same-old.

This was my letter that I posted to the Dominion Post last week.

While at the Air New Zealand Cup final between Canterbury and Wellington on Saturday night, I was advised by gate security that I couldn't enter the stadium with my Subway sandwich wrapped in Subway paper.

The reason was that Subway isn't a cup sponsor and the organisers didn't want to risk upsetting sponsors if I were seen on TV eating from a non-sponsor's wrapping.

This might suggest why there has been a drop in gate-takings for rugby games - they have become just another advertising campaign.

I won't buy tickets to any more rugby games while this remains the rule.

At least I can enjoy watching the game from the comfort of my home, eating my non-sponsored Subway sandwich

At the Wellington Stadium, they have got so anal that they even stop people taking bottles of drinking water into the venue, even in plain un-branded bottles. The vendors in the stadium sell water at hugely-inflated, rip-off prices.
