The leader of Zimbabwe's Movement for Democratic Change, Morgan Tsvangirai, has been sworn as Prime Minister by his long-time opponent, President Robert Mugabe.
Mr Mugabe had long vowed that his bitter political rival would never gain power.
But these are desperate times in Zimbabwe and it was Mr Mugabe himself who inaugurated Mr Tsvangirai as Prime Minister under a power-sharing deal.
It is still unclear how the two leaders will work together, but the new Prime Minister has told the country that he will begin work immediately to rebuild the shattered economy.
Mr Tsvangirai will also be charged with the task of tackling the cholera epidemic which has killed almost 3,500 people and remains out of control.
