Talk about bullshit and jelly beans - this young police recruit should be attending anger management - not being released into the public with little training and an aggressive nature!!

A police recruit who assaulted two colleagues in a Wellington bar was allowed to graduate with a blemish-free record.

The man denied the offending, but an internal investigation into the incident, completed after he had graduated from the police college and had been placed in South Auckland, found him guilty of common assault a charge punishable by up to six months in prison or a $4000 fine.

It is understood no criminal charges were laid.

The information comes to light as another former recruit remains stood down on full pay awaiting trial, accused of raping a woman he met on the internet, two weeks into his police training.

Police were unable to say how many recruits had been investigated for disgraceful conduct in the past few years, but The Dominion Post knows of three other investigations in 2006 alone, including one accused of a domestic-related burglary and another man convicted of assaulting another recruit with a bottle while socialising in the police bar.

In the latest case to come to light, documents obtained by The Dominion Post show the off-duty recruits were drinking at Kitty O'Shea's Bar in Courtenay Place, where the intoxicated constable abused a female colleague, made derogatory comments about her appearance and pushed her in the crowded bar.

He later grabbed a male constable by the shirt, forcing him against a wall and goading him to "go for a fight".

Compare the original thread article to this:

Police charge youths in alleged boarding school assault
9:35AM Monday Feb 09, 2009

Four teenagers have been charged with assaulting a fellow New Plymouth Boys' High School boarder last year.

The charges stem from a November 18 attack in which a 17-year-old student had to jump out of a window to escape his assailants.

He suffered two black eyes, a swollen jaw and a cut to his face that needed stitches.

Police said the alleged attackers, who were also boarders at the time, had been jointly charged with assault with intent to injure.

The three 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old were to appear in New Plymouth District Court on March 12.

The charges follows the release of a reeport at the end of last month which found a culture of abuse among hostel students at the school.

The report, which was sparked by the incident, said the school's principal failed to properly address the behaviour.

The report was commissioned by the school's board of trustees.

In light of the findings, the school has pledged change and to establish a committee consisting of staff, board members and students to "address concerns identified" and report to the school monthly.

With the recession looming all this may change in the very near future. As we have had a period of low unemployment rates recently, state sectors such as the police have struggled with recruiting to the point where just to keep numbers they will recruit anyone with a pulse. Now job hunting is set to get more difficult, they are most likely going to find themselves in a position to pick and choose who is recruited so we do not end up having clowns like this on the front line.

I think the cops like these hard-heads.  They probably feel they need a few 'angry young men', on their side, to combat the other 'angry young men' on the streets.

Still, it's not ok that cops can run riot in the country and not have to atone for their misplaced behaviours.

they should not be aloud to become cops at all.   I thought they had to do heaps of tests to make sure they don't go over the top;
