Despite last week announcing he was the best in the business, Paul Henry last night missed out on the best presenter gong at the annual Qantas Film and TV awards.
Veteran Fair Go presenter Kevin Milne pipped Henry, in a night full of shocks and in which TVNZ trounced TV3.
One News took out the best news category and Q+A was named best current affairs series, while Close Up's Robyn Janes, Louisa Cleave and Corinne Ambler were collectively named journalist of the year.
TV3's news team didn't have much to celebrate last night, with Amanda Gillies' award for best news reporting for her work on the Victoria bush fires the only bright spot in an otherwise awardless evening.
In the general TV categories TVNZ was also dominant, winning best drama programme for the David Dougherty film Until Proven Innocent, best entertainment programme for Dancing With the Stars and best sports broadcast for the international netball series.
TV3 picked up best comedy programme for The Jaquie Brown Diaries and C4 took out the youth category for Play it Strange 2008.
TV One films Piece of My Heart and Until Proven Innocent dominated the acting categories, with Emily Barclay, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Cohen Holloway and Peter Elliott taking out the top spots.
The usually dominant Outrageous Fortune had a quiet night, winning only in the best script category.
There were more shocks in the feature film categories. Apron Strings' Scott Wills and Jennifer Ludlam won the best actor and best actress gongs, beating more famous names.
