The National Government is supporting a bid by former Prime Minister Helen Clark for a top United Nations job.

Prime Minister John Key confirmed Miss Clark was a candidate for the post of administrator of the UN Development Programme and had the support of the Government. Miss Clark told the Sunday Star-Times the position came up at short notice.

"It's a very senior position and will be hotly contested by a number of candidates," she said.

She would have control of the largest budget of any UN agency.

[W]hat the internet and its cult of anonymity do is to provide a blanket sort of immunity for anybody who wants to say anything about anybody else, and it would be difficult in this sense to think of a more morally deformed exploitation of the concept of free speech.

I wonder who else is going for this position.  And do the we pay her salary if she gets the job, or the UN?  Undecided

Nah Newt - she wil get the hand job.

Contrary to what many think about her she is one of the most respected women in the world.

She handed over the reins to National with all details in tack - no budget blow outs.

In time she will achieve more than most and Kiwis will puff out their chests with pride.

I thought there was at least a differing of opinion on what we all thought was a better budget balance? National seemed to think so anyhoo.
