Police are hunting for a 27-year-old Kaikohe man after a stabbing in the Northland town overnight which has put a 19-year-old in hospital in a serious condition.

The victim found several men going through his property in his Tawa Street home about 3.30am today and chased them, said Detective Sergeant Rhys Johnston, of Kaikohe CIB.

He confronted 27-year-old Raman Pouwhare and was stabbed during the ensuing scuffle.

The victim has a stab wound to his stomach and one to his tongue, Mr Johnston said.

He was flown to Whangarei Hospital for surgery and was now in a serious but stable condition in an induced coma.

Mr Johnston said Mr Pouwhare was identified as the offender and police would like help in tracking him down.

He is described as a short male Maori of thin build, with heavy tattooing on his upper body. He now has short hair and a moustache.

He is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

[W]hat the internet and its cult of anonymity do is to provide a blanket sort of immunity for anybody who wants to say anything about anybody else, and it would be difficult in this sense to think of a more morally deformed exploitation of the concept of free speech.

The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.
