I am so upset at the moment, I came home from shopping this afternoon and found my kitten Bugsy dead. We think a dog had got him, I only hope he didn't suffer. The mum is quite traumatised too, and it took me some time to persuade her to come inside. She is hiding behind the curtain in my bedroom at the moment.

I can't believe I will never see him and his magnificent tail, playing with everything he shouldn't, jumping into any cardboard box and "killing" our shoes again.

I don't even think I want to replace him either, because I don't think I could. Even George, who is not a cat lover as a rule, was taken with Bugsy, he was such a character.  Cry

TokGal - I am so sorry to hear Bugsy is gone. These wee furbabies make such an imprint in our lives. Their's is unconditional love. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks Ali and Shef. I thought the poem was lovely Ali, even if it did start me crying all over again.

I had a hell of job sleeping last night, I was really tired but every time I closed my eyes I saw the scene when I found him. I think it was about 4.30am when I finally dropped off after a cup of hot chocolate. Moma cat slept on my bed all night so she was a comfort, although she is still quite nervous.

Tokgal - I knew the poem would make you cry. I still cry each time I read it and Sam died at the end of 2006. It's so beautiful. We are allowed to grieve for our wonderful furry friends. My babies get loads of cuddles all the time, but when I read about Bugsy yesterday - my lot all got squeezed really tightly. Cuddles to Moma Cat.

Don't let your grief stop you getting another wee one if that is what you'd like. Never think you are replacing a loved one because you're not. You are simply filling a vacancy.

I am so very sorry for you.  I have put off answering your post because my own wee dog was run over and killed last Wednesday and I am struggling with it.  He would have been 1 on Saturday.   My heart goes out to you at this most awful of times.

Oh Magoo, I'm sorry to hear that. Well you know that I can say with complete understanding that I know how you're feeling. My baby puss was just 8 months old. Have a read of the poem that Ali posted, it's lovely and might bring some comfort to you. I have printed it out and am going to frame it with a pic of Bugsy or am I being a bit stupid?

Moma cat is getting heaps of love and cuddles, and is loving it, she's calming down nicely now. Still looking for her baby though.

You are not stupid TokGal.   I think it is lovely in fact... I have printed it out also.  I used a canvas precut greeting card which I use for my paintings and put a photo of my puppy on and the verse on the inside.   You can buy the cards at The Stationary Warehouse and the printing instructions are in the package.    You can also get lovely scrapbook art in TWH for decorating cards too.
It is a huge loss in a household.          I hope you will soon feel better and like me you will have so many lovely memories to tide us over these very lonely days and nights.

Having lost 2 of my furbabies in March, one very unexpectedly, I know exactly how you both feel.

Thanks SP.  It takes one animal lover to know how another feels.  I am sorry for your loss too.

Thanks Ali.  There have been buckets cried in this house since Wednesday week.  We have an individual pet cremation service here and we took him there and he is home now and here he will stay.  He would have been one tomorrow.

TokGal I hope you have feeling a little better today.

Thankyou Magoo, I slept better last night, maybe because I was so tired.

My thoughts are with SP too following her loss, as you have said it takes one animal lover to know how another feels.

Thank you for asking Ali. That was sweet of you.   I am doing quite well considering my shadow has gone but there are days when DH is still struggling.     No more fur children here.  We are done.
