Newt - who is a personal pronoun and cannot be used in relation to anything other than people.

So if you have a mountain thats named after a person - and u want to play this game - and u want to be the mountain u have to be a WHAT AM I - if you want to be the man - you are a WHO AM I.

You cannot be a CAR and be a WHO - cars are not personal - they are not people - they are a WHAT.

A mountain is a WHAT - irrelevant who it is named after or for.

Have you wondered why many have stepped back from the game?  Its cos they listened while in English classes.

The rules of the game are easy.  The person who is answering needs to state at the beginning of their turn whether they are Who, Where or What.

......................................................................................

well sorry L'lee i beg to differ ...

Who is used to name anything that has a name ....

i.e if i was thinking One Tree Hill

the question would be Who am I ... the correct answer would be One Tree Hill

so how can I ask What am I ?

the answer would have to be ..... a Hill or extinct volcano

What am I can't be One Tree Hill as What can only relate to a thing or object

.............................................................................

since you apparently listened in english Class care to comment on this Class activity ?

Twenty Questions/Who am I?

Purpose    To help students learn more about job content and conditions.
Structure    Whole class activity.
Duration    Each round may last 5 - 10 minutes, depending on how many rounds you want to have.
Resources    Career Services' printouts and sticky labels (for the Who Am I? version).
Instructions

   1. As per the standard game of twenty questions - one person knows a job title. The rest of the class can ask him/her questions that require a 'yes/no' answer, to help them guess what the job title is.
   2. The person who first guesses the job is the winner and must think of a job for the next round.

Variations

Have the class research a number of jobs beforehand, using Career Services' Job Info printouts. Let them refer to their printout while answering questions. You may want to prepare a list of jobs and allocate one to each student, or to some students.

The 'Who Am I' version is similar, but works like this: place a sticky label with a job title on each student's back, without them being able to see it. Students wander around amongst each other. They can ask anyone they wish questions to help them work out what their job title is. The questions can only have 'yes/no' answers. This continues until everyone has worked out what their job title is. You may want to get students to sit down as soon as they have worked out their own job title.

http://www2.careers.govt.nz/twenty_questions.html

so you see imho

Job = Teacher

answer .... Who am I = a Teacher      What am I  = a Teacher

Mountain = Mt Cook .... Who am I  = Mt Cook ..... What am I = a Mountain

so if you want to change the Rules of Who What and Where then go ahead

in the meantime my original question is Who am I

and we are two questions away from an answer and if none is forth coming I shall set another Question

ok

Who am I ?

Mt. Asama

Mount Asama, one of Japan's most active volcanos, spewed ash and smoke up to 2,000 metres into the air in an eruption early today.

The 2,568-metre volcano sent chunks of rock hurtling as far as 1km away, Japan's meteorological agency said. No damage or injuries were reported.

The town of Karuizawa was blanketed in a fine layer of powder, while light clouds of ash reached Tokyo, 90 miles away.

Mount Asama's last major eruption came in September 2004, when the ash was thick enough to damage local crops. A much bigger eruption in 1783 killed an estimated 1,500 people.

Today's eruption coincided with increased volcanic activity elsewhere in the region, with minor eruptions reported at Mount Sakurajima, in south-western Japan, and Karymsky, on Russia's Kamchatka peninsula.

Japan, which lies inside a ring of seismic fault lines circling the Pacific ocean, is home to 108 active volcanos, about 10% of the world's total.

The worst eruption in recent memory, at Mount Unzen in 1991, killed 43 people. In 2000, an eruption at Mount Usu, on the northern island of Hokkaido, forced the evacuation of 15,000 people.

LOL - whatever you understand about mountains, they are never a who - they are inanimate objects - and they are a what.

The way you play this game Newt, with your understanding you could win every time and no one else would ever have a chance unless they fluked it - your rules allow anything to be where who and what.

Sooo funny!!!

well i waited for your pearls of wisdom L'lee

however your Rules ...

The rules of the game are easy.  The person who is answering needs to state at the beginning of their turn whether they are Who, Where or What.  Then they can only answer questions with a yes or no.  The other players can ask up to 20 questions to figure out what the person is.  e.g. Are you a dead person?  Are you in NZ? Are you a type of fish?  When asking your question insert quote the previous person's post so that everyone can see what has already been

so perhaps you may like to enlighten everyone as to the actual meanings of WHO WHAT and WHERE

you see how could i have worked Mt Asama usingh your WHAT reasoning ?

you see i was after the name of the volcano not What it was or Where it was

you trying to tell me that anything wih a name is a What now ?

i await your next pearl before posting another question as i dont want to get my Where's What's and Who's mixed up again  Smiley

Not my rules really - they are the way the game has been played forever.  However, being as there are no rules stated I guess you can do what you like.  Seems the power trip has really taken you for a ride.

It not hard to comprehend - WHO - is a personal pronoun - which mean it relates to 'person'.

WHAT A I? refers to inanimate objects.  Cars, power poles, telephones, houses, mountains etc.

WHERE AM I is location - where in the universe or world.

Your way, your mountain would be a who and a what and a where.

Makes the whole game irrelevant really.

the oxford english dictionary gives the following definition of WHO:
 1. a. As the ordinary interrogative pronoun, in the nominative singular or plural, used of a person or persons: corresponding to what of things.

similarly it give:  What
 1. As the ordinary interrogative pronoun of neuter gender, orig. sing., in later use also pl., used of a thing or things: corresponding to the demonstrative that

I hope that clarifies the situation
