Changes to the RMA:

Councils required to reduce their fee if they are at fault over late processing of a resource consent application.

Applicants for resource consent can skip the council hearing and go straight to the Environment Court, if the council agrees.

Councils will no longer be able to require a resource consent to trim or cut down trees of a certain height or girth. Rules differ for different councils.

District and regional plan process to be streamlined, with appeals to the Environment Court over planning rules limited to legal issues only.

Fines for breaking environmental law up from $200,000 to $300,000 for individuals and $600,000 for companies.

[W]hat the internet and its cult of anonymity do is to provide a blanket sort of immunity for anybody who wants to say anything about anybody else, and it would be difficult in this sense to think of a more morally deformed exploitation of the concept of free speech.

I doubt it.
It was never a problem before the government of the day made it one.

The RMA was a draconian piece of legislation that ground the ordinary man - and companies - into a state inspired dust.
I am pleased to see a partial lightening of one of the millstones round our necks.

That article doesnt really look at the rest of the changes round trees.
You still cannot cut down a native.  If your neighbour does - instead of it costing $50 to take him to the environmental court it will now cost $500.

Anyone wanna guess which political party dreamed up the Resource Management Act and enacted it into law?

I'll give you a clue....the politician who introduced the RMA to Parliament and shepherded it through the house and the select committee process to become law is the MP for Nelson and the current Minister of Conservation!

Funny shit, aye?
