A new power cut has hit Auckland, less than 24 hours after yesterday's major outage.The areas affected are the eastern suburbs which were struck yesterday. Transpower was due to release more information shortly. Wendy Caspersonn from the St Heliers Bay Village Association said retailers and cafes were shutting shop. "People just can't do business, they're just shutting up shop," Ms Caspersonn said. She said cash registers weren't working and businesses wre without computers. Power restored to Auckland suburbsLATEST: Power has been restored in the Auckland suburbs of Newmarket and Parnell. Vector spokeswoman Philippa White said the cause of the power cut was still unkown, as most of the cables in the area were underground. However, Vector had managed to restore power by drawing electricity from another area, she said. Power was cut in Newmarket and the top of Parnell between 12.40pm and 2.20pm, affecting the lunctime trade for many retailers. My heart bleeds - NOT! When we lived on the station, power cuts could last as long as 2-3 weeks. Thankfully, most of the time was when it was snowing, so enough frozens were taken out for a couple of days and left where the dogs couldn't get them  Mr S bought a gennie big enough to run the telly so we could watch the news/weather, but when the fuel for it was gone we were out of luck, the pumps ran on electricity. |
