A US woman who drank herself unconscious on her birthday has had to have her legs amputated.
Shanna Hiles is suing the Uniontown Hospital in Pennsylvania after she lost both limbs from the knee down.
Following celebrations for her 20th birthday, Hiles passed out while sitting on the floor with her legs tucked under her.
She stayed in that position for more than 12 hours which led to the loss of her limbs, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
However Hiles launched a medical malpractice suit over claims hospital officials did not properly diagnose her condition and work to restore circulation to her legs.
Instead, she was transferred to a Pittsburgh hospital several hours later where both legs were amputated at the knee.
