Emergency services are attending a plane crash at North Shore Airfield.

A police communications spokeswoman said it appeared the plane had skidded off the runway while landing. She said no injuries had been reported and the type of plane was not yet known, but was believed to be a vintage aircraft.

The only one that comes to mind is at Dairy Flat - in Rodney.

Ooooh....this is getting interesting. Click on the link to the aviation messageboard (in the message immediately above this one) and read the comments about rich people with too much money buying high-performance ex-military jets that are beyond their flying experience level, and who then disregard very good advice (instruction) from their flying-instructor and fly it into airfields where the runway is way to short to have any margin for error!

Could be a candidate for Dumbfuck of the Week Award, perhaps?

New Zealand Police Alert 8:20pm 1 Feb 2009 Waitemata

Location of incident: Postmans Road

Incident type: Update of North Shore airfield

Update of incident at North Shore Airfield.

Police report that Postman Road is now open and the aircraft involved has been moved from the scene.

The aircraft is a L29 2 seater Russian made jet and appears to have left the run way and crashed through a fence.

The aircraft is damaged and there is no injury to the pilot.

Civil Aviation safety invesitigator Alan MOSELEN has attended the scene and is conducting the investigation.
