It seems almost every week prior to the first ANZAC test of the year a Kiwi star is sighted for something that threatens their removal from the kiwis. Is this nothing more than an aussie conspiracy? Or is it actually justified? I watched the issue on TV and thought nothing of it.

Slater in doubt for trans-Tasman Test

Australian full-back Billy Slater is in extreme doubt for this Friday night's rugby league Test match at Lang Park after he broke down at training this afternoon.

Slater rolled his ankle during a routine backline movement and limped off the field to receive immediate attention.

While the Australian selectors have not announced a replacement, it is expected Broncos full-back Karmichael Hunt will be rushed into the squad.

Thats pretty cool, I'm glad Benji got the captaincy. I laughed the other day on the news when Kearney stated they were undecided on what position he was going to play and then Benji was asked and he very quickly replied 'halfback, there is no doubt about it.' So I wonder who is really running the team, Coach or Captain?

Luke out of NZ league Test team

South Sydney hooker Issac Luke has been rubbed out of the New Zealand side for Friday' nights Test match against Australia after failing to beat a striking charge at the NRL judiciary.

Luke was contesting a grade one striking charge - the lowest end of the scale - arising from an incident late in last Saturday's loss to Gold Coast.

It occurred with Luke in possession of the ball and involved Titans defender Anthony Laffranchi.

After a 30-minute hearing, the judiciary panel of Mal Cochrane, Bob Lindner and Ian Roberts took less than 15 minutes to reach a surprise verdict.

A stunned Luke did not speak to waiting media after the verdict, but Kiwis spokesman Richard Becht said: "We've got a young man who's devastated that he's not going to be able to play for his country, it's obviously why he plays the game.

"From the New Zealand Rugby League camp, we certainly view the punishment as harsh but, be that as it may, it's done, we'll move on, we have a Test match to prepare for."

The creative Luke's loss is a massive blow to World Cup holders New Zealand and Becht confirmed Wests Tigers hooker Dene Halatau would start the Suncorp Stadium Test as his replacement.

Due to two previous charges in the past two years, Luke had faced a one-match ban if he issued an early guilty plea or contested the charge and lost.

Test matches are counted in any suspensions incurred by players in the NRL.

Luke's lawyer Geoff Bellew unsuccessfully argued that the player's action could not be defined as reckless and a guilty verdict would mean players could be punished for accidents.

But NRL prosecutor Peter Kite argued Luke had led with a forearm above his shoulder and made contact with Laffranchi's jaw.

Souths coach Jason Taylor said the club was disappointed Luke would miss out on the big game experience.

"He's really passionate about playing for the Kiwis, he was in the starting team and it was going to be a real highlight for him so it's very disappointing," Taylor said.

"I just had a bit of a chat to him about making sure that he handles it in the right way because he's pretty disappointed right now."

The Kiwis have made just two starting changes from last year's World Cup winning outfit with prop Roy Asotasi replacing retired World Cup skipper Nathan Cayless and Halatau now replacing England-based Thomas Leuluai.

Skipper Benji Marshall and Nathan Fien have switched roles in the halves in the only change to the starting backline.

Marshall appeared unhindered at training after missing Wests Tigers' last round clash due to a corked thigh.

"He is kicking along OK, everything is as we expected," New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney said.

"He didn't play on the weekend. It was a fairly bad cork that he got (but) he seems to be progressing well.

"I am very confident he will play on Friday."

New Zealand: Lance Hohaia, Sam Perrett, Simon Mannering, Jerome Ropati, Manu Vatuvei, Nathan Fien, Benji Marshall (capt), Roy Asotasi, Dene Halatau, Adam Blair, David Fa'alogo, Bronson Harrison, Jeremy Smith. Interchange: Greg Eastwood, Jeff Lima, Jason Nightingale, Iosia Soliola, Sika Manu.

Well another Kiwi bites the dust just before a Test. It is about time what happens in the NRL stays in the NRL and not effect test matches!!!

Australian full-back Billy Slater has shaken off an ankle injury and will take his place in tonight's rugby league Test against New Zealand at Lang Park in Brisbane.

Slater has been in doubt all week after rolling his ankle on Tuesday, but was cleared by the Kangaroos medical staff this morning after completing the team's final training session on Thursday night.
