I told her just now on messenger that I had to go to school tomorrrow because the school is doing a Ash Wednesday service.

She said yes it was sad that they had to have another one.

There has been only one Shrove Tuesday (day before ash wednesday) that I haven't made pancakes in recent years that comes to mind. The year sp1 was born, Mr sp had to go home, smoke his cigar and try and make them himself while waiting for a more congenial hour to call England with the 1st great grandchild/great-great grandchild news.

BTW pancakes are traditionally served on Shrove Tuesday as a way to use up eggs before Lent.
