Hi Dazza.   I have been using PDF files for my art course and have had some that wouldn't open.  I have tried to update the Adobe Reader to 9.1 and am getting this error message.

Error 1402.
Could not open key Hkey-Local_machine\software\classes\CLSID\{06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3}Inproc Server 32

Verify that you have sufficient acces to that key.

I have uninstalled Adobe and still no joy.   Any suggestions please.   I have googled this but can't find this exact problem.                Roll Eyes

Try this:

Solution 1: Remove all previous versions of Acrobat, and then reinstall.

Choose Start > Control Panel (Windows XP) or Start > Settings > Control Panel (Windows 2000).
Double-click Add Or Remove Programs.
Select Adobe Acrobat [version] and click Remove.
When prompted, confirm that you want to remove Acrobat.
Repeat the above procedure for all installed versions of Acrobat.
Restart the computer, and then reinstall Acrobat.

Let me know what happens.

I did that and downloaded  the 9.1 version.  It goes through the install process until it is almost 100% and then this message comes up.         Bloody annoying.  Thanks for your time BTW.

Ok - well things get rather complicated from here on out if you have completely uninsulated and then tried reinstalling and still had no joy...

Here's the link to to support page - it's pretty hard core....  best of luck!

open adobe and click help  and then click about and check the version you have installed .......often adobe wants to update to version already updated. also make sure is only vertsion installed. be careful about insatalling later versions as will overwrite full versions and ability to write pdf's may be lost.

The download is faulty magoo.  For whatever reason it has missed a vital package, maybe even just a check package.

Download it from a different site and try loading that.

Nope - it's a permissions issue on a reg key.

She can change the key manually bit it's not something to do light heartedly....

Morning folks.   Went off line early last night.       I have followed the path in regedit and I can't find the pfd.  It appears to be missing so I can't check permission etc.  I have tried several dowloads from various sites.  All download and go through the process with no problem until 99% installed when I get this message....  Do I need this reader or is there an alternative that would give me less grief.   I haven't installed or uninstalled any other progs lately.

I am sick of Adobe.  I have been checking on this and apparently the 9 and 9.1 are complete arses to install and can create so many hassles.        I had followed all the uninstall... clean ups...etc and still nout so I have downloaded Foxlit PDF reader and it works just fine.        If ever you come across a solution for this I would be interested.  Thanks for your time guys.
