I have Windows Vista on my laptop. I have got on my desktop a gadget that shows my CPU use and RAM, now and again the CPU monitor goes right up to 100%, stays there for a few seconds and then comes back down to around 18 - 20%. I can be doing nothing more than playing Spider solitaire and it will happen or I can be talking to a friend on Skype and it happens. It appears to me that something is running in the background intermittently but I can't find what it is.

I have sone a full system scan and nothing harmful or malicious was found and it said my computer is working fine. I have got rid of a lot of programs that I never use. Anyone got any more ideas?

That sounds normal Tok - however, do you have a network?
The System Idle Process often max's out the CPU when the machine is idle.

You should pop open Task Manager and sit back and watch - when the CPU Max's out, take not of which task it is in Task Manager.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
