flounder or other flatfish

mate of mind showed me how, a day or two ago:

He laid the fish on a micro-safe dish, dark side up, still wet and slimy (as in just off the boat, but I guess supermarket flatties could be wet down first) and took a sheet of handytowel and sort of laid it over fish and fins, patted it down so the handytowell was stuck and bunged it in the micro for 3 minutes for my smallish one, 4 minutes for his bigger one.

He let them sit a wee while after timeup, then gently removed the handytowel complete with fins, head and skin.

With salt to taste and a knob of butter melted over, and a squeeze of lemon, ... Heaven!

Did he have to loosen the head in any way first Nitz? Or does it just come off without too much problem.

I might have to try this. I've always been loath to cook fish in the m/w, too scared of overcooking, but worth a try.

I often cook flounder in the microwave it is so easy and saves a heap of washing up.

Ive always avoided using the microwave for actually cooking something - theyve all been disasters  Angry

Did/do you coat your flounder with flour and salt/pepper b4 cooking?

And - what about the fish smell in the microwave - any??

Classic idea!

No flour, L'lee , and I didn't notice fish smell hanging round.

Rule of thumb for perfect microwave fish whether whole or filleted.   Cook 1 minute for each 100 grams of fish.    Best to pierce eyes with toothpick or remove because they will explode (sealed membrane)

Yes kidneys too.
What a mess blew the door open.........nearly as bad as a unpierced can of beans or letting the water boil away on eggs probably worst as stunk up the house for days and the egg set like concrete

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body.

But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

WOW, What a Ride!"

Please note: IMHO and e&oe apply to all my posts.

Glad I didn't have to clean out your oven. Grin Grin
When I first got my MW oven I was sure a couple of seconds wouldn't be enough to warm a bread roll and gave it about a minute.  I could have played golf with it. Grin

my late mum won a microwave for buying a bag of spuds at the supermarket ...

she had it delivered unpacked it and sat it a top the fridge ...

her attempt at making a sultana cake was her on and only time she used it

the cake was a rock that even the birds in teh garden where it ebded up couldnt crack into

the microwave became a store cupboard until she died and took it ....

going well still over 10 years since she won it ...
