Kiwi rail employees suck up more govt subsidies than dole bludgers...guess that makes kiwirail employees the biggest bludgers in NZ
They must wonder what it would be like to actually be employed in a productive job.....
Instead of just sucking money out of the NZ taxpayers....😳

Metiria Turei says she'll pay back benefit money she wasn't entitled to receive.

Metiria Turei says she will pay back the money she owes to Work and Income after admitting she lied while she was a beneficiary.

In a piece for The Guardian on Thursday, Turei wrote about the reason why she decided to reveal her deception, and about the vitriol and abuse she had received since doing it.

The Greens co-leader has previously said she would be willing to pay back the money she took if the Ministry of Social Development chose to follow up on her admission, something it has roughly 12 months to do.

....Trump and First Lady offer condolences....

Trump, in somber address, calls Las Vegas shooting an 'act of pure evil'

President Trump called the Las Vegas attack an "act of pure evil" Monday morning, in a somber address to the American people following the mass shooting now considered the deadliest in modern U.S. history.

The attack left 58 people dead and 515 hospitalized.

The president announced he will visit Las Vegas on Wednesday to meet with law enforcement, first responders and families of victims. He also ordered the flag be flown at half-staff at the White House and other federal buildings to honor those who died.

“It was an act of pure evil,” Trump said.

In a unifying, faith-focused speech from the Diplomatic Room at the White House, the president offered his prayers through this “very dark period.”

“To the families of the victims, we are praying for you and we are here for you and we ask God to help see you through this very dark period,” the president said. “Scripture teaches us the Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. We seek comfort in those words for we know that God lives in the hearts of those who grieve.”

The president called upon “the bonds that unite us,” including faith, family and shared values.

“Our unity cannot be shattered by evil. Our bonds cannot be broken by violence,” Trump said. “In times such as these, I know we are searching for some kind of meaning in the chaos, light in the darkness. The answers do not come easy.”

He added: “But we can take solace knowing that even the darkest space can be illuminated by a single ray of hope.”

Trump said that he and the first lady “pray for the entire nation.”

“We pray for the day when evil is banished and the innocent are safe from hatred and from fear,” Trump said.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Monday that the president has spoken with the Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Sheriff Joe Lombardo.

The president first addressed the deadly attack early Monday morning on Twitter.

“My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!” Trump tweeted.

The suspect, who was killed, was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, a local resident. Authorities also said they were “confident” Paddock’s roommate, Marilou Danley, had been located. Officials previously described Danley as a person of interest.

Authorities said one on-duty officer was in critical condition and another was wounded in the shooting. Two off-duty police officers attending the concert were killed.

“This was obviously well-planned, they waited for a major, open air event, and obtained a room facing it,” retired FBI special agent and former national FBI spokesman John Iannarelli, who drove past the scene of the event just moments before the shooting took place, told Fox News. “I can see the flashing blue police lights from my hotel window.”

“They were well-trained,” Iannarelli said, noting the use of automatic weapons. “That’s not an easy task.”

Iannarelli also said “it is too early to tell” what the motive was. “Is this a lone wolf inspired by others? This is exactly the type of attack the U.S. has been fearing would come to our shores.”

Officials did not immediately reveal a motive.

First lady Melania Trump also offered her condolences on Twitter Monday morning.

"My heart and prayers goes out to victims, families & loved ones! #PrayForLasVegas," she tweeted.

...good to see President Trump and the First Lady supporting the victims and first responders😜

Trump praises ‘bravery’ of first responders in Las Vegas, consoles shooting survivors

President Trump, visiting Las Vegas in the wake of the country's deadliest mass shooting, lauded the heroic first responders for their “bravery,” thanked the nurses and doctors for their “incredible” efforts and consoled survivors by telling them “we’re there for you.”

“Words cannot the describe the bravery that the whole world witnessed on Sunday night," the president said Wednesday, during a brief speech at the Las Vegas Police Department Command Center. "Americans defied death and hatred with love and with courage.”

Trump told first responders: “A grateful nation thanks you.”

Fifty-eight people were killed and more than 480 injured in the attack when a deranged sniper fired from the 32nd floor of a casino.

The president’s motorcade passed the scene of the shooting on the way to University Medical Center, where he met earlier with victims, families and medical professionals.

“We met patients that were absolutely, terribly wounded," Trump said following his hospital visit.

The president said his message to the victims is “we have a great country, and we’re there for you.” Trump said he invited some of the patients to come to Washington to visit the White House.

“And believe me, I’ll be there for them,” he said.

Trump praised the doctors and nurses for their “professionalism,” telling them “it’s incredible what you’ve done.”

Trump, accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, was greeted at the airport by Nevada Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo.

Las Vegas is a city the president knows well: Trump International Hotel Las Vegas is only a few miles down the road from Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, where police say a man named Stephen Paddock smashed two windows in his suite overlooking a country music festival on Sunday night and opened gunfire on concertgoers.

In recent days, Democrats have called for new gun control measures in the wake of the massacre. Both Trump and congressional Republicans have said it’s too early to discuss any legislative actions that could be taken.

A reporter asked Trump about the issue of gun violence during his hospital visit, but the president said: “We’re not going to talk about that today.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Monday it’s too soon to discuss policy changes when authorities still haven’t gathered all the facts of the shooting.

“There's a time and place for a political debate, but now is the time to unite as a country,” Sanders said. “There is currently an open and ongoing law enforcement investigation. A motive is yet to be determined.”

MCCONNELL: 'INAPPROPRIATE TO POLITICIZE' LAS VEGAS MASSACRE

On Tuesday, Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, called it both “inappropriate” and “premature” to discuss whether Congress should consider gun control legislation.

“Look the investigation has not even been completed, and I think it’s premature to be discussing legislative solutions, if there are any,” McConnell told reporters, when asked if he could support new gun restrictions in response to the country’s deadliest mass shooting.

On Monday morning, just hours after the shooting, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton called for the defeat of a National Rifle Association-backed bill in Congress that would ease regulations on gun silencers.

“The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots,” Clinton tweeted. “Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get. Our grief isn't enough. We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA, and work together to try to stop this from happening again.”

Likewise, Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, an ardent proponent of gun control, blasted what he referred to as “legislative indifference” on guns.

“It's time for Congress to get off its ass and do something," he said
