Labour commits $38 million for ‘RNZ Plus

RADIO NEW ZEALAND would become a multi-media platform, expanding into free-to- air television under a plan by Labour to make public broadcast device neutral.

Labour leader Jacinda Ardern says RNZ would share in $38 million to help the public broadcaster keep up with the pace of media change.

But National leader Bill English has labelled the plan old fashioned and says if people want investigative journalism they can pay for it.

A new project called RNZ Plus would be funded to offer multi-platform services like BBC in the UK and ABC in Australia, including expanding into television.

“We are in a changing, dynamic media world. Our ability to keep pace with that means making sure that we acknowledge the pace of change and that we support public broadcasting in New Zealand and across the many platforms in which it must exist now,” she said.

New Zealand On Air would also share in the $38m fund, with the split to be determined by a new organisation called the Public Media Funding Commission, a cross-party committee that would also be able to fund other investigative journalism projects.

Labour is not proposing any changes to Television New Zealand.

Mr English said it was difficult to see why Labour would want to spend money getting more onto screens when “it's not hard” now.

“I just think it's unnecessary,” he said.

Asked if New Zealand needed more investigative journalism Mr English said the government was already well held to account by existing organisations.

“If people are willing for that they can pay for it or, as we have now, a whole range of blogs and, well, mainly blogs actually … where all sorts of investigative journalism turns up,” he said.

“I don't think there's any shortage of accountability and good journalism.”

The Coalition for Better Broadcasting called RNZ Plus the “public service operator we need for the digital future” and added the new commission would help insulate public service funding from political and commercial pressure.

I see that idiot Bill English has been sticking his oar in without actually engaging his brain....

Typical Nats....put a $$$$ value on everything. Or restrict in-depth investigation and journalism to those with discretionary spending.

Or to put it another way: Billy-boy English (and the Nats) prefer to keep those at the bottom of the socio-economic heap in an ignorant state so they can continue to shaft them.

Yeah, well a dumbarse like Billy-boy English wouldn't have the intelligence to know why high-quality journalism is good for society.

Billy-boy is one of those dumbarse righties whose brain doesn't have the capability of coping without ad breaks to give his under-performing brain a rest.

He doesn't like the fact that intelligent people have no problems at all with being able to comprehend three continuous hours of quality, in-depth broadcasting and journalism without ad breaks.

Let the STUPID (such as Billy-boy and his dumb Nats mates) listen to their sycophant Mike Hosking and other stupid retards on commercial radio, so they can continue to give their over-taxed brains a rest during the frequent inane ad breaks and leave the likes of Radio New Zealand to the intelligent people of New Zealand.

It's interesting that for many years, Radio New Zealand National wasn't rated along with the commercial radio stations. Mike Hosking was always crowing about how his breakfast session was the highest rating radio program in New Zealand based on audience numbers. Then, three years ago, Radio New Zealand was included in the survey of radio listeners, and it was suddenly revealed that their Morning Report program was attracting almost double the number of listeners as what Hosking's breakfast show on Newstalk ZB was attracting. All of a sudden, the private radio industry was screeching for Radio NZ to be dropped from those rating tables.

Kinda says it all, eh?

Your Nats heros have had NINE YEARS to do something about child poverty.

And they have chosen to do NOTHING.

All the stupid rightie FUCKWITS of your ilk have spent most of the past nine years DENYING there was any childhood poverty in New Zealand.

THIS THREAD at this group is full of it.

So are you now admitting that YOU and your ilk have been FULL-OF-SHIT over the past nine years when you have been denying that childhood poverty exists in NZ?

Remember Channel Seven?

It was on Freeview.....24/7 quality news and current affairs....and NO ADVERTISEMENTS.

The Nats killed that off, because they HATE well-informed voters when election time comes around every three years.

It's EXCELLENT NEWS that Labour are promising to bring it back, but run by Radio NZ instead of TVNZ.

..hey...speaking of comrades...they were talking on the radio about the new iPhone having a facial recognition system....but the guy was asking what will happen in California where all the lefties are having facelifts..😂

from the Otago Daily Times....

Labour would turn Radio New Zealand into multi-platform media outlet

By DENE MacKENZIE | Wednesday, 13 September 2017

Labour leader Jacinda Ardern. — File photograph.
Labour leader Jacinda Ardern. — File photograph.

LABOUR wants to change Radio New Zealand into a multi-platform provider dedicated to New Zealand programming and journalism, including a free-to-air non-commercial television service.

RNZ could also be required to present a television news bulletin each day, in competition with existing news organisations.

Labour has long complained about the funding freeze for RNZ imposed by the National-led Government.

There is a wide perception RNZ is left-leaning and opposed to the Government, despite chairman Richard Griffin once being an adviser to former prime minister Jim Bolger.

Announcing the policy yesterday, Labour leader Jacinda Ardern said a Labour-led government would provide $38 million a year in additional funding for “quality” New Zealand programming and journalism.

The money would be independently apportioned between RNZ+, as the new entity would be called, and New Zealand On Air.

New Zealand On Air could use the funding for content promoting New Zealand's national identity or investigative journalism.

“Labour recognised as a nation we must be able to tell our stories, including those of our diverse communities, on multiple platforms …”

“We also recognise that a strong, informed democracy needs a strong, independent, free public media service.”

Public media was essential to ensuring all New Zealanders were engaged and heard, Ms Ardern said.

Media companies like Dunedin's Allied Press which operate daily and regional newspapers and a television channel, rely on advertising to cover costs, but would be able to apply for the new funding for “innovative investigative journalism”.

Ms Ardern said with more resources, RNZ+ would be able to continue the work already started, including producing more long-form investigative work, video content and a free-to-air non-commercial television service.

Labour would establish a public media funding commission to engage with both commercial and not-for-profit media outlets to identify ways to support new independent and investigative journalism across all media platforms.

In New Zealand we have the usual bias from righties who think their “shit doesn't stink” and that it is beneath them to account for their actions when they are in power....

Quote

Yet it's strange how all the negative comment about Radio New Zealand from stupid righties ceased during the nine years Radio NZ presenters and journalists were giving Helen Clark and Michael Cullen a hard time with their awkward questions and deep probing into everything that Labour Governement was doing. Yet as soon as it is a Nats government on the receiving end, the STUPID RETARDS of NZ politics start screeching & screaming “LEFTIE RADIO” and “RED RADIO” because righties are basically arrogant bastards who don't like being asked hard questions about what they are up to.

Until yesterday, I hadn't decided as to which political party I was going to vote for in this general election.

However, I have now decided to vote for whichever political party offers the most support to non-commercial quality public broadcasting.

The various political parties have just under a week-and-a-half to persuade me to give them my party vote.

Based on Billy-boy's negativity towards non-commercial quality public broadcasting, it definitely wont be the Nats.

But it is possible I may vote for one of the two major political parties for the first time in 30 years, based on what they are offering.

It all depends upon what the other political parties offer before Saturday 23rd September to beat this....

I'll tell you what....I KNOW you regularly give Billy-boy English blow jobs.

So if you find his penis in your mouth over the next week, suggest to him that if he reverses his previous position on supporting quality advertisement-free public broadcasting, including ad-free news & current affairs television on Freeview, I'll vote for the Nats.

How about it....will you be sucking Billy-boy off over the next week?

BTW....do you swallow, or do you spit it out afterwards?

...yeah....nah...we don't need our taxes being spent on communist media.....et the people choose😉

Fairfax not happy with Labour’s bribe for Red Radio

Fairfax isn’t at all happy about Labour’s boost for Red Radio:

A Labour Party proposal to boost Radio New Zealand’s role in the media market and pay for it to launch a television channel has copped criticism from Fairfax New Zealand.

Labour leader Jacinda Ardern announced on Tuesday morning that the party would provide funding for Radio NZ to set up a new non-commercial television channel if elected, with the radio broadcaster morphing into a multi-media “public digital media service”, which it has dubbed “RNZ Plus”.

The plan would likely see Radio NZ get the bulk of an additional $38 million a year that Labour would allocate to public broadcasting, said Labour broadcasting spokeswoman Clare Curran, who denied the plan was a snub to Television New Zealand.

Fairfax NZ chief executive Sinead Boucher said it was “great that Labour recognises the importance of high-quality journalism to a sound democracy”.

“But I would question their approach of piling more money into state-owned media, and their plans to turn Radio NZ into a super-media platform and broadcaster.

“Whilst Radio NZ is a great organisation, it has just had a big funding boost and I am not convinced New Zealanders have much appetite for more of their journalism to ultimately flow up to government control,” she said.

Labour’s policy is to establish a Public Media Funding Commission. They claim it will be free from political influence. Yeah, right.

Labour has a history of padding out such organisations to featherbed and payoff their supporters.

You can just imagine who will be appointed to this, all the luvvies who have seen their crap shows defunded over the years.

Buggered if I know why Red Radio and TVNZ aren’t merged and one of the many channels that TVNZ has that aren’t well utilised sidelined for the Red radio content…but then again they already tried that with TVNZ7.

Red Radio does do some things very well, but the major problem it has is all the pinkos and lack of conservative views on their shows as either hosts or as guests.

So....have you had Billy-boy's penis in your mouth since I last posted to this thread?

Did you tell Billy-boy he could persuade me to vote for the Nats if he changes his tune on support for quality, non-commercial public broadcasting?

Or is your next session of giving a blow-job to Billy-boy still to come?

(....and BTW you still haven't answered my question.....when Billy-boy ejaculates into your mouth, do you swallow, or spit it out?)

But we're not talking about your penis.

We're talking about Billy-boy English's roman catholic penis....or more specifically, Billy-boy's penis in your mouth.

So.....do you spit? Or do you swallow?
