I guarantee you one thing. If labour gets in it will binge on spending then turn to talking waffle to defend its inability to carry on it's unaffordable agenda. A conservative party will again be voted in to clean up the economic rot.

National can socially be cnuts in terms of not giving a fuck about the poor. They need to change that.

Pity there isn't some pragmatic alternatives in NZ.

Unlike the loony left, we rationalists don't have a months long temper tantrum or hit people, when the party we voted for doesn't win an election 😁

Why Jacinda will never fix child poverty despite her endless bleating about it

Jacinda Ardern has stated that the reason she is in politics is to end child poverty.

Then she goes on to state that our child poverty statistics are appalling and she will work tirelessly to end child poverty.

The problem is though, no matter what she does, because of the measurement that she uses for child poverty, she will achieve nothing.

Why?

Because the measurement is a crock. This is how is is calculated.

Bill English has always been dismissive of calls to adopt a child poverty reduction target – for good reason. The target suggested to him during his years as Finance Minister was based on a purely statistical measure of poverty defined as households with less than 60 per cent of New Zealand’s median household income.

Labour’s solution and that of every liberal womble out there is to pour money into those 60% of households.

It is a simple measure inviting a simple response: give those households more income in the form of child benefits until they can be measured above the poverty line.

Except the measure is on median incomes. SO hordes or poor people being given more money simply moves the median up and they are still below the 60% mark.

The total measure of children in households below 60 per cent of the median income is 295,000, which is about a quarter of all the children in New Zealand. If it is hard to believe as many as one in four children are living in such deprivation, there is a more credible survey of children’s actual conditions. It estimates 155,000 children are lacking many of the personal possessions, healthcare and housing standards every New Zealand child ought to have.

If a blunt numerical target is to guide social policy under whichever party becomes the Government next month, the figure of 155,000 would be a better one. It would invite more precisely directed programmes than a simple payment per child to all household below the adopted poverty line. The circumstances of children will vary greatly depending on whether they have wider families and on the budgeting skills, lifestyles and resources of their parents.

The only way to demonstrably affect the calculation is to either have a huge immigration boost from people who earn less than the media income….or dramatically drop the incomes of those already below it. Giving them more money doesn’t do anything. Government mandating minimum or living wages doesn’t do anything. Even a Guaranteed Minimum Income wouldn’t solve anything.

The measure is flawed but the problem is the left wing have invested in this measure and so endlessly qquote how bad it all is.

Ironically they’ve made a rod for their backs because it is never going to improve and if Labour wins then in 12 months time there will be calls from the opposition for Labour to start delivering on this as the problem is still there…and every year after that. It can never be solved because the measure is designed to never provide a solution.

The best way out of poverty is still to remove oneself from welfare dependency and the ONLY you can do that is to have a growing economy that employs people, increasing education outcomes and removing impediments to business.

It’s just a shame that Labour never seems to see that. Jacinda Ardern can show us her concern face all she likes. In three years time, if she becomes PM on the basis that the only reason she is in politics is to stop child poverty, then the opposition will be able to credibly claim that she has failed and should go.

If Winnie tag-teamed with the Nats, that would be great, because Winnie is after UTU, so it would be like 1999 all over again when Winnie shit on Jenny Shipley and fucked up the then Nats government.

Either way, Winnie is going to have his revenge for the Nats shitting on him. Either he will support a Nats government, but it will be on HIS TERMS and you can guarantee he will pull the rug out from beneath them, or else he will shove one right up the Nats' collective clackers by supporting Labour.

There is a third possibility....that Labour and the Greens combined get more than 50% of the party vote, as well as Labour taking all of the Maori seats and that stupid ACT wanker in Epsom dips out and loses the seat. In that case, Jacinda could, if she chose, leave Winnie stewing on the opposition benches next to the Nats he hates for shitting on him.

The next electoral term is going to be hugely entertaining, although nowhere near as entertaining as watching that stupid retard in The White House slowly fucking up the USA and hastening their decline from superpower to has-been former superpower. That is where the best entertainment and comedy show is in the world right now.

"Re: Are NZers dumb enough to vote based on gender and superficial charm? "

..starting to look that way...tonight's poll results are quite depressing...makes you wonder what the average kiwi is thinking....getting sucked in so easily..to emotive, idealistic waffle....😒

...seems like voting by personality in preference to actual policy..

Whoever gets to be govt will make no difference to me...but it looks like the next generation is possibly about to be locked into a lot of debt and high taxes

Tonight's TVNZ poll results are only depressing if you are a STUPID RETARD.

So I guess this means that as you find those poll results depressing, then you are a STUPID RETARD.

Must be time for you to fuck off from NZ again like a frightened rat in the same way you have in the past, eh?

I think two things will be driving this. Naive kids will vote for Cindy 'cause she's sort of got the youf look and vibe. Der!
Secondly secret feminazis who voted national last time are being compelled by their strong kiwi fembot brainwashing to support a woman in charge (almost any woman) .

...and ..for me...Taxinda is to young...especially only having troughing experience..like kiwirail labourers....she doesn't know the real word..never being involved in business....just sucking up tax payer money🙄

...comes across as a "try hard" actor...but doing it really blatant and bad...then expects people to worship the ground she walks on......and the sheep do...😳

..watching her theatrics during the debates actually makes me feel like spewing...quite sad that there are fuckwits out there sucking on this shit🙄

We see saw between delusional idealists like her and shits like the gnats. Meanwhile shitloads of people are getting left behind, either way. When something new and sensible comes along the usual duopoly of myopic clown zealots will be left in the dust of history.

Labour and the Greens are mostly about token gestures and wasting money on dividing people with stupid identity politics. Hulun did a few good things but then so did the nasty nats. Neither party has a clue.

......guess this means THERE IS GOING TO BE A LAND TAX...

....labour has a big hole in its budget because they know that all the new taxes are going to more than fill that hole😜

If you scratch around on YouTube you can find comrade Jacinda at a European socialist convention. This would further indicate to me she lives in a loony left academic fantasy world.

I don't mind higher taxes(within reason) if you get very good basic services (basic clean housing, medical, dental, infrastructure and education) for all.

...mm..scary..😳

.The fairy-tale of little Princess Jacinda, a must-read bedtime story for all socialists

Comment of the Day, by George

Once upon a time Princess Jacinda sat her final paper towards obtaining her degree at Waikato University, she handed in a blank sheet of paper. The examiner looked at it and asked her, “What’s this”?

She replied, “Don’t worry about it, I have a group of mates down town working on the answers right now and when they come up with what they consider are the solutions, I will post them into you. Can you give me my degree now please”?

The examiner replied, “Sorry Princess Jacinda, but life’s not like that.”

Not long after, Princess Jacinda went to get her driver’s license. The Officer invited Princess Jacinda to get into the car so he could test her practical driving skills. Princess Jacinda replied, “No need for that, I have a bunch of mates figuring out how to drive a car, and when they work it out, I’ll let you know. Can you give me my driver’s license now please?”

The officer replied, “Sorry Princess Jacinda, but life’s not like that.”

Princess Jacinda then thought it a good idea to buy a house so went along to an auction and placed the highest bid. When the agent went to sign her up he enquired as to how she wished to settle the deal from a financial prospective. Princess Jacinda replied, “No need for that, I have a group of mates doing the number crunching right now so l will sort it out later. Can you give me the keys now please?”

The agent replied, “Sorry Princess Jacinda, but life’s not like that.”

Princess Jacinda then joined the Labour Party and became their leader. The finance spokesmen suggested they plan a tax grab and when Princess Jacinda was on the campaign trail she was asked repeatedly what the fiscal details of their new tax grabs were. She replied, “Don’t worry about that, we have a group of mates down town figuring it out for us, and when they come up with what they consider are the solutions, I’ll let you know, so can I have your vote so I can become the next Labour Prime Minister now please?”

The electorate replied, “Sorry Princess Jacinda, but life’s not like that.”

But Princess Jacinda felt vindicated, for she had, at last, found a home in a political party which thought life was indeed, just like that, and she lived happily ever after.

HAHAHA....the election isn't for another couple of weeks, yet you are oozing panic and sour-grapes already.

I think you'd better book your flight to Oz, or Texas, or South Korea now....get ready to flee like the frightened rat you are, then you'll be able to bugger off the day after election day. Burn your passport once you get to your destination, 'cause New Zealand doesn't need sour-grapes LOSERS like you.

Ktj..."....."

....really ...well if that's what panic looks like to a rail labourer.
..you gotta get out more...

....nah it ain't panic sonny.....it's just the realization that our country may be on the verge of taking a great leap..

...BACKWARDS, 10 or 20 years...and heaping a lot of cost onto our younger generations to pay off....🙄

...for me personally, I would be better off under labour...but that's not what it's about....people need to look at the ongoing economic strength of the country, without that we have nothing😳
