from The Washington Post....27 Americans were shot and killed on Christmas dayBy CHRISTOPHER INGRAHAM | 11:54AM EST - Monday, December 28, 2015A customer compares handguns before buying one as a Christmas present at the National Armory gun store on December 23rd, 2015 in Pompano Beach, Florida. — Photograph: Joe Raedle/Getty Images.IN A GRIM REMINDER that violence in America never takes a holiday, 27 people were killed and 63 injured in shooting incidents on Christmas Day this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. This tally does not include people who shot themselves in suicide.
The number of Americans killed in gun homicides on Christmas Day is comparable to the number of people killed in gun homicides in an entire year in places like Australia or Britain. The 27 people killed by guns in America on Christmas this year is equal to the total number of people killed in gun homicides in an entire year in Austria, New Zealand, Norway, Slovenia, Estonia, Bermuda, Hong Kong and Iceland, combined. The dead included the parents of a young child who were shot during a robbery in Columbus, Ohio; a Texas grandfather, whose 73-year-old wife says she shot him for “continuous marital issues and infidelities”; a young couple killed in their vehicle in the early morning hours near Augusta, Maine; and the owner of a barbershop in Alabama who was known as “a strong voice against crime” in the community, according to local news reports.
At least two of the Christmas Day shootings qualified as mass shooting incidents with four or more people shot. In one, a two-year old girl and three teenagers were injured in a shooting in a high-crime neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida. Later that night in Mobile, Alabama, four teenagers were shot by two gunmen outside a movie theater.
So far this year, we've averaged roughly 36 gun fatalities and 73 gun injuries each day, according to the Gun Violence Archive. So the Christmas Day tally represents something of a temporary de-escalation in the violence, but not a huge one.
This year has brought renewed attention to the problem of mass shooting incidents in America. But the spate of Christmas Day violence is a reminder that many more people are killed and injured in a relentless daily drumbeat of gun crime that barely makes the headlines.• Christopher Ingraham writes about politics, drug policy and all things data. He previously worked at the Brookings Institution and the Pew Research Center.__________________________________________________________________________ Read more on this topic:

Ah, but do we have more mass shootings than the number of days in the year?
Have we had any mass shootings in NZ during this past year?
What about last year? Or the year before that? Or the year before that?
And how many gun-related deaths did we have in NZ on Christmas Day last week?
In America, in addition to 27 shooting deaths on Christmas Day (and that excludes shooting suicides) the total number of mass shootings exceeded the number of days in 2015 way back in September. They define any incident where a gunman (or gunwoman) shoots four or more people as being a mass shooting.
There was an article published by The Washington Post about it several weeks ago and I reposted the article to this group.
Did you read it and click on the numerous links in the article?

Most suicides here are gun related. As far as your most days in the year goes, if we had the population of America it would be almost the same. and no, I get glazed eyes when someone pastes up a monstrous post - and if it was Horsey? or that other nitwit who's name escapes me for the moment - I never read their agendas.

Neither David Horsey, nor Mark Morford write for The Washington Post. They write columns, not investigative journalism articles which is what the article about there being more mass-shootings (as defined by the FBI) in the USA than days in the year was. Mind you, most of the columnists at The Washington Post appear to be very intelligent journalists who write very factual and insightful stuff compared to, say, the redneck American newspapers of the midwest or the south. And it isn't just the average American gun-nut who indulges in lots of killings using guns. THIS FACTUAL ARTICLE published by The Washington Post on Boxing Day tells the tale of how American cops shot dead 965 citizens during 2015 up until Christmas Eve. And 90 of those victims of fatal police shootings were completely unarmed, yet the cops concerned still aimed at them and pulled the trigger and gunned them down with fatal results. No wonder the average American citizen thinks its okay to solve problems with a gun when the cops resort to it on such a regular basis. Talk about a fucked-up society, eh?

Why does it concern you so greatly? I don't mind saying that I felt safer walking the streets of New York, NewOrleans, Philidelphia, than many of the streets of Auckland, Hamilton.......

...yes..... it is a little puzzling why there may be more concern about adults being killed by guns in America (which is a democracy and still they obviously dont care about deaths by guns much or they would do something about it) .... as opposed to NZ's high baby murder rates....babies who have not even had a chance of contributing to the democratic process here...they are the REAL innocent victims that we should be outraged about

I have never murdered a baby in my life, nor do I ever intend to murder a baby. Are YOU planning to become a baby murderer, or something just like it?

Ah, yes....just pretend that 27 people being shot dead on Christmas Day is boring. If one of your kids got shot, would that be boring? Would you simply yawn and carry on as usual?
