..I guess this should be in the  "dumbfucks of the week " thread...

...the Greens have done a great job of lifting the profile of ACT's David Seymour...he has done good work here

Green Party health spokesman Kevin Hague initially described David Seymour's Rugby World Cup pubs bill as a "cheap gimmick".

OPINION: Remember when the Green brand used to conjure up images of doped up hippies and flower power? No more.

The Greens are now ruing lumping themselves with the label of Parliament's wowsers after blocking legislation that would have allowed bars to keep serving booze during Rugby World Cup games.

Their inelegant back-flip to save face a day later shows how much the wowser label hurt.

The Greens argued that they opposed ACT MP David Seymour's bill allowing pubs to stay open during the early hours of the world cup because it was too broad and mostly a publicity stunt. They prefer to paint that as a decision of principle.

From the outside, it looked more like petty politics. And woe betide any politician who puts politics in the way of a rugby fan and enjoying a beer in front of the big screen at their local pub.

Seymour's legislation allowing pubs to stay open after 4am to show matches in the United Kingdom will now be referred to a select committee after the Greens withdrew their objections.

Their change of heart came after other parties scrambled to reassure the public that the beer would keep flowing regardless. Prime Minister John Key promised the Government would urgently draft legislation. Labour leader Andrew Little went one better, pointing out that while it was a conscience vote, he favoured broadening the legislation to include other major events like the Netball World Cup and Olympic Games.

Amid the mad scramble to get onside with the rugby-loving public it might have been lost sight of that there is nothing in the existing law to stop bars opening for extended hours - they just have to apply for a licence. However, there appeared to be some confusion about how that was applied in different parts of the country.

The nightmare for the Government, however, would be angry publicans and fans howling about bars being refused licences because of bureaucracy and red tape.

The alternative headache is headlines about drunken rugby fans spilling out onto the streets just as the kids are heading off to school.

But for now the Greens are experiencing the bigger hangover of being labelled a bunch of party poopers in Rugby World Cup year.

Not exactly a good look for the Nats, is it.

Remember when we used to have liquor laws which allowed many bars to stay open ALL night?

It wasn't all that long ago.

Guess who pushed liquor legislation through Parliament forcing bars to close much earlier?

Give up? I'll give you a hint....

....it was the wowser Nats. Very recently too.

Back last summer, the news media was reporting on how the Nats' new legislation was going to cause problems for the Rugby World Cup in a several weeks time (now a few weeks time).

John Key was asked about it by the news media (I can remember the news footage of him being asked which was broadcast on television news).

His reply? He accused the news media of scaremongering and said he was “relaxed” about it.

So there you have it....the Nats created the situation we are in, and then failed to do anything about it because John Key was “relaxed”.

So who are the REAL incompetent dumbfucks, not of the week, but dumbfucks of the YEAR?

"She was a candidate for the McGillicuddy Serious Party in the 1993 election and for the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party in the 1996 election

2017 general election   Edit
On 16 July 2017, Turei admitted to benefit fraud over a period of three years in the early 1990's during the launch of the Green Party's 2017 election campaign. She admitted not disclosing to Work and Income New Zealand that she was accepting rent from flatmates. Turei justified her action on the grounds that she and her young daughter depended on the domestic purposes benefit to survive. During the campaign, Turei advocated raising the domestic purposes benefit for solo parents and low-income families.[20] Turei's disclosure attracted polarizing responses from other politicians, the New Zealand media, and blogosphere. Turei's disclosure attracted criticism from the Social Development Minister Anne Tolley, the Labour Party leader Andrew Little, and the media commentators Barry Soper and Patrick Gower.[21][22][23][24] The left-wing journalist Chris Trotter and blogger Martyn Bradbury have spoken out in support of her, instead faulting what they consider Work and Income's "punitive" treatment of beneficiaries.[25][26]

The conservative taxpayer pressure group New Zealand Taxpayers' Union has also announced that it will invoice her $57,000 in damages while some beneficiaries and anti-poverty advocacy groups have spoken in support of Turei's actions.[27][28][29] Turei has claimed to have spoken with other beneficiaries who have been withholding information about their benefit status from Work and Income.[21] Turei has also advocated an amnesty on beneficiaries, while acknowledging that she was not aware of an amnesty instituted during the 1990s.[30] On 26 July, Turei announced that she would be meeting with Work and Income's investigative unit to calculate how much she would pay back in compensation.[31]

Personal life
She has one daughter named Piupiu Turei and is married to Warwick Stanton.[1] [32]"
