Unless it gets a liquid in it (wet spoons etc) the only thing that generally goes wrong with golden syrup is that it may crystallise. If this happens, the tin can be stood in hot water and - hey presto- good as new Wink
The same applies to honey.

Pancakes was it Dazza? Or crumpets with lashings of butter and syrup

Maybe porridge? pikelets? hot scones with sour cream and syrup or fly blog as we call it.

I have just made curried sausages for tea tonight and I sweeten the curry with golden syrup.    It is lovely on porridge especially the thick stuff.  I make it so you can stand your spoon up in it.

Cooking early is a hangover from my years of living in Aus Dazza.  We had our own trucking business there and himself used to hit the road around 2 am most mornings  so after I got him out the door I would set about the housework.  Also I found preparing the evening meal before the heat of the day was the easiest way to deal with it and have continued to do it.  Its great if I go out and don't have to come home and start cooking and we only have the plates and cutlery to wash at night.

Yer - it is a great idea actually.

It would help insure the kids were hungry at dinner time as well - smelling food all day.

I do like wandering the bottle of golden syrup or maple syrup over icecream  :blsm

Never thought of using it for a curry though, my sweetener has always been sultanas.

Sounds good.   Rub some garlic over it and cook it in a can of beer.  Makes great gravy.  Stout is even better.

Foods that keep for over 5 years are not required to have a best before date.

That is why you won't find a date on honey, sugar or golden syrup.

It doesn't seem to go off as in go rotten, it does crystallise, as if it is trying to make itself into sugar.
