It's a beautiful fine, warm, spring day in Wairarapa today, with but a mere hint of a slight breath of a breeze.

This is the view around the corner and down the road a short distance from my place in Whakaoriori....

What a difference an hour-and-a-half can make, weatherwise....

Snow, rain and gales on the way

MetService, Yahoo New Zealand

November 1, 2014, 2:36 pm

Snow, rain and gales on the way

Snow, rain and gales are on the way in a brief reminder of winter.

Heavy rain is expected on high ground from Mt Taranaki to Tongariro National Park and also over the Tararua range and the ranges of northwest Nelson on Monday, MetService said.

Severe northwest gales are expected in Marlborough, Wellington and Wairarapa, and possibly also in Hawke's Bay.

On Monday and Tuesday, a southerly spreads over the South Island with rain in eastern areas, and snow possible to 300 or 400 metres about Southland and Clutha, MetService said.

It's “early summer” in Wairarapa today (just like yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that).

Norwester arrived, temp hit 21c at my place overnight: I nearly had to put my butter in the fridge instead of where I usually keep it - in the waterheater cupboard.

Wind has moved back to Souwest and 14c during the last hour or so. TGFT.

It's still very windy in Wellington. We've had fabulous sunshine today but the wind has made it nearly impossible to have the ranch slider doors open.

At least my newly planted rose bushes are doing okay despite the wind.

Summertime in the Spring today at the bottom of the North Island, as captured on photographs this morning....

I could actually see the Kaikoura mountains in the distance from the rail bridge across the Hutt River at Pomare, right up the northern end of Lower Hutt.

It's still a beautiful day. I'm currently on a train just heading through Ngauranga alongside Wellington Harbour on the way home after spending the weekend in Wellington and attending the final subscription series concert of the year by Orchestra Wellington last night where they performed an epic rendition of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.

Back to reality in the morning when I've got to start work at 4:00am.

It's blowing like a million bastards at my place.

However, I don't have to worry about trees, because the wind toppled the last of my big trees earlier this year.

Now I've only got small & low trees left, so I can relax and not worry about big trees getting blown over into a neighbour's place and smashing things up.

The last big tree (which went over earlier this year) missed my neighbour's two glasshouses by bugger-all (whew).

Mind you, the neighbour got a good supply of firewood out of it....and I didn't have to clean up a thing!

Ditto in Wairarapa.

Just got home from work and two thermometers in my place (one mercury, and one digital) are both showing 28°C....

I opened the already-opened windows even more and turned on fans in every room.

Over the other side of the ranges in Wellington, it's a grey, slightly-drizzly, cool day.

Damn....it's now raining at my place in Whakaoriori.

Unfortunately, both thermometers (mercury and digital) show the temperature is still 29°C.

That means it's going to be a very sticky night tonight....hard to sleep and I've got another early start at work in the morning.

1mm rain last night, after 8 days dry. Metservice still can't tell the difference twixt heavy fog and heavy rain.

Haven't needed Longjohns for ages, or used the heatpump on cooling mode, and I bought myself a floppy sunhat 'cos I got a sunburnt nose.  Smiley

Well....that's the longest day just about buggered.

From tomorrow, each day is a little bit shorter than the day before until we reach the shortest day in six months time.

Nice day in Whakaoriori today, once the cloud burnt off.

Another day of sunshine and blue skies forecast for tomorrow too.

Off to Wellington again first thing in the morning, then straight back home again. I should be knocking off work and walking out the gate about the time the customers I transport to work are taking their morning tea break. And that's just how things should be when the weather is nice, I reckon.

And with that, I'm off to bed (even though the sun is still shining)....

It's too bloody hot at my place.

Being way inland there is no cooling sea-breeze....just searing heat....

The Vintage Aviator have got a WWI airshow on today at Hood Aerodrome (less than 4km down the road from my place), but I cannot be bothered because of the heat.

much better here than yesterday was, had a couple of mm of rain overnight; it will probably keep the lawn alive till New Years Eve.  19c is my kind of weather.

So far today, I have been in Wairarapa, underground inside the Rimutaka Range the Mangaroa Valley, the Hutt Valley, Wellington, the Hutt Valley again, the Mangaroa Valley again, back underground inside the Rimutaka Range, and back to Wairarapa.

The hottest (by far) of all of those places is Wairarapa.
