It was bloody freezing in Wairarapa last night, but a beautiful winter day was forecast, so I got out of bed early and and headed off to take some photographs around the region.

Sunrise at Mataikona Rocks just north of Castlepoint…

Castlepoint with its iconic lighthouse and the fortress-like Castle Rock behind the settlement not long after sunrise…

The beach at Cape Palliser just after midday (can you spot the fauna?)…

Coastal fauna at Cape Palliser (with a look that says, “bugger off and leave me alone”)…

The lighthouse at Cape Palliser, which is the southern-most point of NZ's North Island…

Lake Onoke as viewed from the Lake Ferry Hotel during lunch, with Mount Matthews, the highest peak in the Remutaka Ranges, visible in the background…

The view from Ocean Beach on the western side of Palliser Bay, mid-afternoon…
