A bit more grown up, wonder if he still loves drugs.

The last post I recall from him was when he got all upset and outraged at the mongrel mob taking his money and then wouldn't give him the Dak he'd paid for.  When he got no sympathy here, he stormed off, never to post again.

But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...

WOW, What a Ride!"

Please note: IMHO and e&oe apply to all my posts.

Haha haven't even looked at who is and isn't in the race yet.     If John Walker is up again for our local area I know that will be a definate tick.  He does a lot for school kids and sport down here.  (Thats up for you Smiley)   I was expecting to see a pic of the homeless guy who's been on TV waving a placard on Tamaki Drive for ages.  Wants to be the mayor.

I didn't click on the pic as knew as soon as I saw it who it was.   Got less hair than he used to have.   I met Stephen once at PW's farewell.  He was very likeable.

I took Stephen for a ride in the cab of a locomotive at the head of a passenger train several years ago from Wellington to Masterton and return.

I laid the law down to him first that if he turned up stoned, he wouldn't be travelling (for safety reasons).

He was on his best behaviour and I found him to be a charming young fella.

remember when our Stephen left to go infiltrate the religious community, in an effort to unmask religion?

I was moved to my Verse-or-worse "on the Hoof" (original instant verse)

A word in your ear, Stephen my dear,
Perhaps you should broaden your mind
If you feel you are cursed by the Church at it's worst
Beliefs, I think, should be defined:

Beliefs, Stephen dear, are nothing to fear,
Your own are irrational too.
I  strongly suspect, if you're not circumspect
You'll soon find youself in the poo.

I've been around in this life and have found
That Beliefs are only a crutch
There ain't nothing sure, it's all it's all pig manure
I see you're  believing too much.

I am sure this crusade would best be delayed
Till you look at the other you're on
Sort yourself first, slay the monkey you've nursed
Then you'll find all your hangups are gone.

So give more thought, Steve, to the things you believe
And ask yourself where you are going
"cos if you ask me I can help you to see
Your naivety, Stephen, is showing.

I don't think he posted here after that, I sometimes wondered whether he had been converted to some obscure cult.

Stephen Berry came in third with 12577 votes.

Ok, that is a distant 3rd behind the two front runners but that is over 2000 votes more than John Minto.

Not bad.

That's what happens when your surname begins with B.

It means you are up near the top (or at the top) of the list of candidates on the ballot paper.

So people who are too lazy to think about who they are voting for are more likely to simply tick a name at the top, or near the top.

It's a fact....studies overseas have shown that those whose surnames begin with A or B or C are more likely to attract votes, even if they are unknown.

from The New Zealand Herald....

Why I should be mayor: Auckland candidates make their pitch

By BERNARD ORSMAN | 7:35PM - Monday, February 15, 2016

MORE THAN 100 people turned out in Ellerslie tonight at a “meet the mayoral candidates” public meeting.

Six candidates — Labour MP Phil Goff, businesswoman Vic Crone, Orakei Local Board member Mark Thomas, activist Penny Bright, former Green Party member David Hay and right-winger Stephen Berry — were asked why they want to be mayor.

What they said…

Phil Goff

Like standing as a parliamentary candidate, it is a great privilege to represent your community and make a difference. It's demanding, long hours but incredibly satisfying.

I'm focused on transport, housing, environmental sustainability and efficient management/good governance.

I love the city and very frustrated like many Aucklanders with increasing rates, decreased services, congestion and the cost of living.

My business experience in terms of fresh ideas, strong leadership and consistently delivering results will make a real difference for our city.

Mark Thomas

I want Auckland to work better, do more with less and not cost as much as it currently is. I want to see some of the promises made in 2010 actually delivered.

Penny Bright

Politically I'm the female equivalent of Bernie Sanders and it is my intention to clean up corrupt corporate control of council.

Stephen Berry

I'm pledging to freeze rates for three years and fund that by council only doing what it is required to do — public transport, footpaths, parks and libraries. I'm concerned about affordable housing and want more flexible zoning and abolishing the rural urban boundary.

David Hay

I'm an Aucklander who loves Auckland. I have the skills and more local body experience than all the other candidates. I'm going out on a platform of cool Auckland to create a carbon zero city.

Candidates were asked a number of questions, including whether there should be a review of the Super City and idea for a fairer rating system.

Ms Crone, in her first appearance at a political meeting, said the fact was rates were rising by 10 per cent and services were decreasing.

“It's time we make sure we treat your hard earned money as a precious resource,” she said.
