The percentage difference between Bob Parker and Jim Anderton wasn't all that big when you consider that Bob Parker has been playing the “earthquake mayor” card. In fact if it hadn't been for the earthquake giving Bob Parker a helping hand, he would have lost the election by a huge margin according to pre-earthquake polls.

So although Bob Parker gets another three years, the reasons why be was so unpopuplar prior to the earthquake remain....his reckless spending on pet projects, AND....the REAL BIGGIE....the fact that Bob Parker fully supported Cantabrians having their democratic rights stomped all over by the Nats and ACT, which has resulted in Cantabrians being denied the opportunity to elect regional councillors to represent them, yet they are STILL BEING FORCED TO PAY RATES to what is now a Nats-inspired dictatorship body!

Capitalists (and righties) are fond of the saying “no taxation without representation” yet here we have righties shitting on their own principles for their own self-serving greedy ends. Remember it was the Nats and ACT and Bob Parker (who is a Nat) who stomped all over democracy in this way and installed a self-serving dictatorship in Canterbury.

Len Brown  YAY !
The 2 councilors I voted for in the Manurewa-Papakura ward also got in.   Sir John Walker and the previous mayor of Papakura Calum Penrose.

What a relief that Banks lost.

Ditto, the two councilors I voted for for North Shore got in too, Ann Hartley (former MP and mayor of Birkenhead and North Shore) and George Wood (former mayor). As for who got on to the community board Sad, there are a brace of Gillons for starters.
