FOUR MEN were killed and at least 12 other people have been wounded since late Friday morning in shootings across the city.

In the first attack, a man was shot and killed on Friday morning as he sat in his truck in West Englewood after dropping off his son at day care, according to police and a friend.

“I jumped up when I heard the gunshots and came to the window,” said the friend, Renee Ballard, who lives in the 7300 block of South Paulina Street where the shooting occurred about 9:20 a.m. “I saw his car window shot up and driver door open.”

Ballard said her daughter called 911 as Ballard went to see if the man was OK. She said he was breathing heavily and couldn't talk. “He didn’t say anything,” she said. “He couldn’t say anything.”

Authorities did not identify the victim, but Ballard said his name was Orlando Porter and he was 26.

Police say a dark sedan pulled up to the truck and someone fired, hitting the victim several times. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Ballard said Porter would come over to her house every day after dropping his son off. He often drove her around on errands.

“If you were down, he always made you smile or laugh,” said Ballard, who has been trying to move out of her West Englewood home.

The next fatal shooting happened about 5:45 p.m. in the 800 block of North Latrobe Avenue in the city's South Austin neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.

In that shooting, a 20-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds while inside a vehicle. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Sweeney said.

Police found over 30 shell casings at the scene. The shooting is believed to be gang-related, they said.

In another fatal shooting, a 24-year-old man died after getting shot in the head in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side about 8:10 p.m., said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man, identified as William Smith of the 900 block of North Springfield Avenue, was standing outside when an unknown attacker fired shots at him in the 3800 block of West Flournoy Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office and Alfaro.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, and he was later pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m., according to the examiner's office and Alfaro.

In the latest fatal attack, a 22-year-old man was shot to death around 3:29 a.m. Saturday in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side, Alfaro said.

The man was walking in the 3200 block of West Addison Street when a male attacker inside a dark blue SUV drove by and fired shots, striking the man in the back. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, Alfaro said.

At the scene of the shooting early on Saturday, police officers cordoned off a section of a sidewalk and a parking lot at the commercial plaza on the corner of Addison Street and Elston Avenue. Yellow crime tape blocked off the area near an O'Reilly Auto Parts store.

Detectives shone flashlights onto the ground, searching for shell casings and other evidence of the shooting.

Cars and trucks passed the crime scene, with some drivers slowing down to look.

A man sat inside a parked police car next to the scene. He sobbed as he talked into a cellphone.

At least 12 other people were wounded since Friday in shootings on the West, North and South sides.

Most recently, an 18-year-old man was wounded in a shooting around 6:50 a.m. Saturday in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side, said Officer Janel Sedovic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in the back, right arm and leg in the 1500 block of West Lunt Avenue. The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition, Sedovic said.

About 3:35 a.m., a 17-year-old male teen was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side, Alfaro said.

The teen was standing on a sidewalk in the 2400 block of South Spaulding Avenue when a dark-colored vehicle drove past and someone inside it fired shots, Alfaro said.

The teen was struck twice in the left knee, and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Alfaro said.

About 12:10 a.m., a 21-year-old man walked into Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center after getting shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, Alfaro said.

The man was driving in a white sedan and stopped at a red light in the 1400 block of North Western Avenue. A male attacker then walked up to his car and fired shots, Alfaro said.

The man was shot in the back, leg and arm. He managed to drive himself to the hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

About 11:15 p.m., a 21-year-old man was wounded in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.

The man was on a porch in the 5600 block of South May Street when someone fired shots at him from the street, Alfaro said.

The man was shot in the leg and the groin and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

Someone was being questioned in connection with the shooting, police said.

About 10:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.

The man was walking on the sidewalk in the 7100 block of South King Drive when a male attacker in a passing gray sedan fired shots at him, Alfaro said.

The man was wounded in the right thigh and taken to Holy Cross Hospital. He was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

About 8:59 p.m., a 21-year-old man walked into Northwestern Memorial Hospital after getting shot in the Cabrini Green neighborhood on the Near North Side, Alfaro said.

The man was walking on the street in the 1000 block of North Hudson Street when unknown attackers in a passing light-colored Nissan fired shots at him, striking him in the ankle, Alfaro said.

The man managed to get himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Alfaro said.

At 7:47 p.m. two 17-year-old boys were shot on the 4200 block of South Archer Avenue, police said.

The two teens were walking outside when someone fired at them from a light-colored SUV, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago police spokesman.

One of the boys was shot in the left leg and shoulder, and the second 17-year-old was shot in the left leg, Gaines said. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, Gaines said.

At 6:18 p.m. a 37-year-old man was shot on the 8200 block of South Euclid Avenue, said Sweeney. The man was shot in the hip and managed to get himself to Trinity Hospital where his condition was stabilized, Gaines said.

About 11:45 a.m., a 24-year-old woman was shot in the 1100 block of North Kedvale Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

According to preliminary reports, the woman was inside a vehicle when at least two people jumped in, announced a robbery and pulled out a gun. Nothing was taken but she was shot in the right thigh and back, Estrada said.

The woman crashed on the same block and was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, he said.

About 2:08 p.m., a 17-year-old male teen was shot on the North Side in the city's Uptown neighborhood, police said.

That shooting happened in the 4600 block of North Magnolia Avenue, Sweeney said.

The 17-year-old suffered a wound to the leg. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, Sweeney said.

About 5:09 p.m., another person was shot in the 8800 block of South Wood Street in the city's Gresham neighborhood, police said.

A 19-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment.
