A YOUTH who led police on a scooter pursuit in Geraldton had an unlucky arrest after he literally bounced into the arms of police -- off a trampoline.

Police spokesman Samuel Dinnison said officers received a report at about 8.50pm last night of a scooter being stolen from a house in Utakarra, on the eastern outskirts of Geraldton.

Officers went to the area and found the scooter being ridden by a youth along the road.

They activated their lights and sirens but the scooter failed to stop.

"After a short pursuit, the rider fell off when he hit a curb," Mr Dinnison said.

The rider fled on foot, with officers pursuing him, and attempted to jump over a fence to get away.

"He tried to jump the fence, but to the suprise of officers who were about to do the same, he reappeared above the fence line and they pretty much just grabbed him and pulled him back over the fence," Mr Dinnison said.

"It turns out of all the parts of fencing he could have chosen, he had jumped over the part where there was a trampoline up against the fence and he simply bounced back into the arms of the police officer."

The 17-year-old boy was charged with stealing a scooter and a string of traffic offences.
