Boat survives tsunami-like wave caused by glacier

23/07/2012 / GREENLAND

Greenland is icy. In fact, it is mostly covered by a giant sheet of ice. So it would make sense that tourists to the enormous land mass would go, in part, to admire its icy surroundings.

This was exactly what a small boat ferrying a group of tourists off the coast of Greenland was doing when the face of a glacier broke off, dropping into the sea below. The impact of the fallen ice caused the water to surge, creating one monstrous, tsunami-like wave, that washed over the vessel, nearly capsizing it.
