Hi, A new news release is available for you to view on the Police website: Title: Commissioner condemns attempted shooting of Police Officer Police Commissioner Peter Marshall has condemned the attempted shooting of a Police Officer in Auckland this morning during a routine vehicle stop. The Commissioner said he is thankful that the shots fired at very close range missed the officer. "While the vast majority of our roadside interactions with individuals take place peacefully and without violence there continues to be a minor element within society who resort to mindless violence. "Having been out on the streets recently with the frontline, they have my utmost admiration for the way they go about their jobs. Today's incident underlines the fact that Police Officers must be constantly alert and vigilant for signs of irrational behaviour by those with whom they interact. On the other hand good conversational communication is a Police Officer's best skill. Maintaining the balance is the art of policing and I take my hat off to my staff's professionalism," said Mr Marshall. The Commissioner said that the Constable and his colleagues who were involved in this morning's incident are now resting but he would be in contact with them later in the day. "I am very confident the offenders involved in this incident will be located and put before the courts" said Mr Marshall. END Please view the full news release online at: http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/31805.htmlThanks, New Zealand Police

This is the pixilated copy, I hope: Mummified sailor’s body found at controls of ghost ship Jen Mills for Metro.co.ukMonday 29 Feb 2016 1:34 pm A sailor’s mummified body has been found still slumped at a desk, on a ship which could have drifted for years without a living crew. Fishermen in the Philippines found the ‘ghost ship’ on Thursday, in seas off the southern island of Mindanao. When they opened the door of the cabin they found the German man, identified as 59-year-old Manfred Fritz Bajorat by documents on board, mummified in the spot where he died. He sat hunched over his arms as if he was sleeping, the radio inches from his hand as if he intended to make one last distress call. Read more? 6 Aw, shucks but these oysters are awesome! (+ video) Home » News » Regions By Timothy Brown and Guy Williams on Wed, 2 Mar 2016 The much-awaited Bluff oyster season began yesterday and if professional oyster shucker Harley Batchelor's opinion is anything to go by, a bumper season awaits. Mr Batchelor (35) has shucked oysters for Direct Fish & Oyster in Bluff for the past 17 seasons. "It's going to be a good season this year,'' he said during a break in his shift. "Today's oysters are awesome. Nice and big and easy to open. It's going to be really good.'' Direct Fish & Oyster owner Willie Calder said he was out with several boats at midnight to catch the first oysters of the season. He harvested 106 tubs from midnight to about noon yesterday. "It's not a bad start,'' he said. "The weather played its part, which made it enjoyable, and the catch rate ended up OK.'' http://www.odt.co.nz/regions/southland/375037/aw-shucks-these-oysters-are-awesome-videoand my mouth is watering just looking at the photographs

Tourist tent crash victims tell 'horror movie' survival story CHRIS HYDE Last updated 12:06, April 2 2016 Three European tourists involved in a real-life "horror movie" experience while camping in South Canterbury keep imagining what could have happened to them if they had set up their tent in a different way. German tourists Nicolina Di Franco, 30, and Mariana Acar, 31, and their Dutch friend Aletta Daniels, 23, were wrapped in sleeping bags inside a tent they had pitched at a Department of Conservation campsite at Lake McGregor, near Tekapo, early on Thursday morning. Di Franco had been last to bed after taking photos of the night sky, and heard the sound of the car next to them being started up.
