Tornado rips through Avondale streets Newstalk ZB

Around 35 firefighters and seven fire engines are in the West Auckland suburb of Avondale after a tornado ripped through several streets at around one o'clock this afternoon.
Jaron Phillips from the Fire Service says a number of houses have lost rooftops and tiles and has confirmed one house was hit by lightning.
The worst affected street is Wairau Avenue which has been closed to traffic.
There are no reports of injuries at this stage.
Mr Phillips says an incident command post has been set up on Wairau Avenue.
