Preview: Ron Arad’s Curtain Call @ Roundhouse

Architect, designer, and all-round aesthetic dabbler (not to mention mean table-tennis hustler, as this Londonista can testify), Ron Arad has a new installation at the Roundhouse in Camden.

Curtain Call is probably the most ambitious event to be staged in the Roundhouse since David Byrne’s Playing The Building in 2009. Inside the former railway turning shed’s cavernous interior, more than 5,000 silicon rods, each 8m high, are suspended vertically from the ceiling; hanging closely together, they form a screen, onto which a series of commissioned artworks are projected, many produced by Arad’s friends and acquaintances.

Though perhaps not a household name outside design circles, Israeli-born Arad, whose studio is located opposite the Roundhouse, is growing in stature in his adopted country; the Barbican held a major retrospective of his work last year, and he has also exhibited at Timothy Taylor gallery.

Curtain Call is at the Roundhouse until 29 August. Entry is on a ‘pay what you can’ basis
