aaawwwwwww.  We never forget the pets we lose but new friends help to ease the pain on move on.

Im a cat person and I know that I can't live without them in my life.  Animals bring such love and comfort into our lives.

I still look round, momentarily wondering where Kurt or Ella are - sensing some shadow from the corner of my eye.
It been a pretty lonely place.....

But I guess my peace is about to be shattered in another 6 weeks or so!

Like Justic, I am a cat person and am owned by 4 of them!

Having said that, I go all weak at the knees when I see the German Shepherds. Congratulations on your new baby Yak - Mum looks beautiful.

I know how you feel, I still look around for Minnie. I swear sometimes she is still following me around the section and both she and Smudge have been gone a year now.

Bobby, bless his fluffy little brain, just isn't in the same league.

I'm a sucker for a GS pup.

I expect semi-regular photo updates, especially when he does the 'helicopter-ears' thing.

I freely admit to being predjudiced, but I believe there is something special about Shepherds.  I have been owned by one or another of them all my adult life.
I recall when my daughter was not much more than a toddler, we had a pond and drain behind our property.  I used to panic when I couldnt find her and zoom outside, only to find that particular Shepherd following 2 metres behind her wherever she went.

here (http://www.stuff.co.nz/oddstuff/3622539/Hero-dog-leads-cops-to-blaze) is another story of a Shepherd doing what comes naturally to them

Sorry, been busy.
Pup coming at 9 weeks old - that is I'm picking him up from the airport on the 20th.
Couldve got him a bit earlier, but I am heading for New Plymouth where my elderly mother is not so good and the thought of his first week or so here in a strange boarding kennels didnt appeal.

Where is the breeder from Yak.

Mr DT built some flash as kennels for a sheppard breeder down here.

I'm just being nosey is all - I can't cope with another big dog.  And it would destroy Gus if we got one - he's shakey now poor old fella.

As an aside Mr DT spent the weekend up your way.  I said he should have called in and seen you and described the gateway to him (you posted a picture or may have sent me a photo waaaaaaay back).  He looked at me for a second then said "Bugger - I think I remember those gates" lol.  I'm thinking he may have been cold and wet at that stage.

Getting him from Bruce & Faye Anderson, http://auberneekennels.co.nz/ Napier.
Our last two came from them too.

Shame Mr DT didnt drop in.  Cold and wet is nothing.  We have rum!  And a fire!

Klaus is here!
9 weeks old today.

[The blue eyes is flash - they are actually brown]

Last night was quite memorable - I believe he got some 20 minutes sleep - or at least he wasnt yodelling for that length of time anyway......  And the trick of putting a radio in with him for company, is all bullshit too..........

Even in sleep he is not relinquishing ownership of the beloved bowl.He is a lovely pup Yak.

That space sure takes a bit of filling.    My beloved Berty will be gone 1 year on the 29th and I still look for him.          I have a new friend who forgives me for calling him by the wrong name on occasions.

Nice to know Ella's bowl is being used, Yak.  Sort of like saying "hello" to her again?  I still have a name disc beside my bed, from the collar of my KC, about three years ago.  :'(

But I wonder at the foot in the waterbowl, does he play the 'splash' game yet?

this needs to be in here again too  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU5pZyY1HWM&feature=player_embedded

pmsl... i had a gs pup that would do that.  But it would flick up so he couldn't see where he was going.  So he'd stumble.  But his party trick was where ever he stumbled that's where he had his nap.  Like it was all part of a greater plan.  :)

He is adorable! Reminds me so much of my Kaz when he was a pup. They are such characters aren't they?

George suggested we get another dog but I don't think it would be a good idea at our age, plus my cat would go apeshit.

This will likely be my last.  In fact, by the law of averages, we will probably cross the Flowing River at about the same time.

Having said that, my parents dog died when my dad was about 86 yrs old.  We watched him steadily lose interest in life and go downhill, until they were persuaded to get another pup.  It brought new life to him.  So absolutely noticable.  He started going outside again and taking it for walks.
He died when it was about 5yrs old, but I know that without it, he would have gone 4yrs earlier!

However, I dont expect to make that age.  Smoked too much, drank too much, breathed in too much PCB and diesel fumes.........(http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww32/XtraNewsCommunity2/MSN%20emoticons/09emcrook.gif)

Hi Ares,
Yeah - He's running me ragged! (http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww32/XtraNewsCommunity2/MSN%20emoticons/01emsmile.gif)
Goes a mile a minute for an hour or so, then collapses into a sleep for an hour - then comes out like a giant refreshed.

He's asleep in front of the fire at the moment.

Hi Yak,
My oldest son wanted a puppy for christmas year before last. Max is half black lab and half golden retriver, I posted a picture in the gallary but I don't know if anyone can see it but me..lol Luckly Michael did all the tending to the little feller even cleaned the floor cause he insisted we keep his baby in the house so the coyotes didn't kill him. My youngest son wanted a hounddog but after seeing his brother cleaning one pile of mess up he said he didn't want a dog..lol

When I was a kid we had a GS that look just like your baby. He was the best babysitter in the world never left my side when I'd go outside.

Hi Ares,
No - that duck is the most amazing thing, he's ripped at it for the last 4 weeks and the only part he's managed to shred is the "Made In China" label.  It was given him by a friend of ours, and I think it must be made for dogs, cause he has given it absolute arseholes... and as I say, just shredded the label - Oh, and killed the mechanism inside that gives a "quack" sound.
[Battery powered???]

I restuff them while he yanks at it trying to take it away from me. I need to get him a stuff toy like your boy's got I reckon.

Flo had 4 puppies on Saturday night (all boys).

1 black, 2 brindle and one brindle with a white head.

They are in our bedroom, she flat out refused to have them anywhere else (or at least rejected all OUR offers and was making another nest under the deck).  So our nights consist of shake, shake, whinge, whinge, shake, whinge......  Boy puppies are just like boy humans.  They do not want to have a bath when they are doing something else.

This is Bandit - still not prepared to disturb mum too much so no other pictures yet.

Our 3 year old boy is the same Yak.  Just wants to meet and play with everybody.  Not a mean bone in his body.  If he wasn't so big, lanky and clutzy, he should be an inside dog.

DT, I'm afraid he is an inside dog.  And he bloody well rules.  I feel guilty if we go out for the day and lock him into his secure yard.
I have never chained a dog up yet, always they have had an enclosed yard. [5 Shepherds, two Foxies and two St Bernards over the years]
This spoiled sod has a 50sq metre secure grassed yard with an insulated shed attached, self filling water trough, shade tree and a post to act as a "urinasium."

In spite of all this, he manages to spend his winter nights inside.... but with astonishingly great difficulty, I have hardened my heart and he spends most summer nights in his yard/shed.  [I still feel guilty somehow]

LMAO

Gus became an inside dog when Mr DT said "He's only got a few months left in him".   He lasted another 2 and a half years!

Flo has her eye on the prize now.   She's a bit depressed because Mr DT and I have moved out and left her with the kids (still building fences at the new place so there's no safety for her).  She visits twice a week and manages to look sadder than sad each time we take her back.  The kids are good to her... she certainly spends more time inside with them than she does with me.  I see more large dog beds in my future. :-\
