i just  brought a new ram chip for my  computer   so i now have 2  pc 800 2gb ram  chips in   and  for some reason   both  task manager and  windows is  only picking up 2 gb.  on top of that it seems  that somethings  eating it -.-.  task manager is  showing
total 3038
cached 2206
free 1

all i have open is this   msn and  yahoo 

any ideas ?  ran  virus  check  havent  found  anything

Ok - first things first - check the BIOS and make sure the memory remap feature is not enabled.

The memory remap moves the hardware addressing to above 4GB for a 64 bit OS. If memory remap is enabled with a 32 bit OS, it may limit memory to 2GB, regardless of how much is installed.

btw  is only 256 shared system memory with graphics

looks like it  could be that   vista  32 bit os is limiting to  3 gb  form some of teh forum post sive trawled over -.-
