Title: Projecting onto an LCD TV
Post by: HisMajesty on March 09, 2009, 03:07:59 pm
This is "on behalf of a friend of mine". This charming and very intelligent man (not to mention extremely handsome and a god-send to the chicks) hires movies regularly but would sometimes run out of time and has to return the movies before he could watch them. He would sometimes save a must-see movie into his desktop to watch later when time permits. He hates copying these onto a DVD as it feels wrong despite the fact that he would never sell or trade such copywritten movies to anyone. Also, he feels he seldom watches a movie more than once so the copied DVD would be a waste and a burden on the environment. Some DVDs are also protected against copying. He deletes movies he's watched from his PC.

Anyway, he wants to watch the movies stored in his PC on an LCD TV. However, the movie player 'box' appears black. He asked and was told it could be either a resolution issue or a copywrite issue. Other video (e.g. from Youtube) do appear alright so must be a copywrite issue.

Is there a legitimate way to get around this?

If the movie plays on your PC/laptop you should be able to hook the PC up to the lcd and open up the computer and play it from there.

OOO OK hon - I think I know yer problem.

When you hook it up to the telly - you have to right click on the desktop - go to properties - settings and choose the second pic of a computer that shows under settings .....

Comprende?

But dont forget to change it back again after playing yer movie.

Ok that didn't work!  ???

I should have mentioned that the desktop and every window open appears alright on the TV but the DVD player box turns black (on the TV) as soon as the movie starts. 'My friend' tried different players but the result is the same.

Hmmm its gotta be a setting - cos we sometimes do the same.

I use WMP mostly - cant think of anything else - but that it is a setting.

When I get stumped with comp stuff HM, I use a NZ help group that, IMO, are the best in the country.  They always manage to sort out the problem ..

Do you wanna ask there??
